Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The girl, for all the excitement that blossomed in her chest, was not yet ready to face her family. She'd sworn her supposed Uncle into secrecy, and now, she only hoped that he would honor the deal he made. She wanted to face them all on her own terms, but it'd be nice if he escorted her to them... at least.

Along the bluffs the lady walked, her footsteps light and without weight; she walked with grace, a gait that came naturally to her. Once, she'd been clumsy and not sure of foot, but her mother had taught her. She pictured @Khione's face in her mind and found herself frowning lightly, her eyes dropping downwards to where her dark paws met the earthy floor. She missed her terribly — guilt, and shame, washed over her whenever she thought of what her mother must have went through.

Adorre still couldn't grasp that she died. She remembered it, all of it. Most of all, she remembered the look of terror upon her older brother's face.

She moved along, eyes sweeping to and fro as she searched for any sort of herb to gather. There. A patch of burnet tucked along the treeline, ripe for picking and she was descending upon it with haste, a new sense of renewal fallen upon her. Her teeth clutched at the stem of a larger bunch and she ripped it root and stem from its soil, followed by a satisfied huff.

“Not the best condition,” She spoke through the bundle clenched between her teeth, her calm voice muffled, “But it'll have to do.”

With a deep breath, Adorre began to turn, slender frame looking to carry her along the bluffs once more, to continue on in her path. But she was met with the sudden appearance of a golden brute, and her blue eyes widened in surprise as she locked gazes with him. Her gathered herbs dropped from her mouth in a small gasp of shock. “Where in the North wilds did you come from?”

And how had such a... huge wolf snuck up on her?

Bewildering amalgamations, what he could only describe as these new sights and scents to be . A sense of awe and wonder overtook him, taking in every detail around him.

He found himself particularly drawn to a patch of herbs, his curiosity piqued by their vibrant colors. It was as if he hoped to decipher their significance in this unfamiliar place. Plucking at the leaves, feigning an air of expertise while subtly studying the flora for any semblance of recognition. Though the purpose eluded him, he had been meticulously gathering herbs … mostly the pretty ones. Humming a quiet, gentle tune to himself.

As he bent to pluck a small bunch of herbs, a sudden gasp disrupted his facade. He turned to find the wolfess, her surprised face meeting his own. Galen straightened up a little too quickly, his usual poise momentarily faltering.

Where in the North Wilds did you come from?

The suddenness of her presence caught him off guard, and he stammered slightly before finding his words. “Oh, uh, hello there! You.. you startled me,” he admitted sheepishly, his tone gentle and slightly bashful. He tried to mask his slight embarrassment with a warm smile. “Im-uh actually not sure.”

Galen attempted to recover his composure, but his usually confident demeanor had a subtle layer of awkwardness. He fumbled a bit, trying to rearrange the herbs he’d just collected, hoping to divert attention from his momentary lapse in grace. He chuckled self-consciously before clearing his throat,

“Forgive my manners, I’m Galen… and you are?”

Tall, beastly, and... surprisingly, he was kind. Something she wasn't quite used to. Men from where she hailed had always been so... vulgar, crass, barbaric — or on the other hand they were ambitious little weasels who knew nothing of gentility. Adorre supposed it was a good look, the one this man had. She couldn't help the small smile that broke out across her pretty face at the way the behemoth stuttered over his words, clearly just as startled by her as she had been by him.

“Hello.” Her airy response came in a brief giggle as the woman blinked up at the golden beast, the word simple and yet eloquent with the way she spoke it. Adorre had always been regal with a presence that spoke of being high born, something she couldn't help -- it breathed of her, was engrained within her. From the way she walked to the way she simply... existed. The princess tilted her head and allowed the herbs she'd collected to drop to her paws, finding it difficult to speak with them clutched within her teeth.

An introduction as well. Color her impressed. The girl shuffled her own paws bashfully and briefly glimpsed down at them, only looking back up at the herculean man whenever she was ready to inform him of her own name. Her eyelashes batted against one another sweetly as she opened her mouth to speak, lifting one of her paws to offer the beast to take, expecting a kiss upon the paw. “Adorre.” The girl introduced, gazing fondly upon the man. “It's lovely to make your acquaintance... Galen.” She enjoyed the way the golden man's name fell off her tongue, finding it easy to say, pleasant to say.

Gosh, how handsome was he? Adorre found herself gazing up almost in astonishment at the portly fellow, finding her cheeks rouge with a flush she was grateful he couldn't see — but at the same time, the princess wasn't necessarily hiding her affliction. “So,” Adorre smiled sweetly and gathered her herbs once more, moving with a gentle sway to begin walking slowly along the bluffs, expecting the fellow to follow her. “Are you the knight in shining armor my mother always told me I'd meet?” The girl teased.
