Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

In this thread Ulrik is roughly the same as a 10 year old human

He had his father's love for adventure. That was pretty clear already at this young age. At five months old he was wandering further and further away from the dens, checking out all the little crevices in the pack's lands because he was no longer tethered to his parents!

Still he would come when called. Not wanting to get a scolding to - but he was growing bold. Nosing the borders and wanting to see what was beyond them. His feet tapped in an in-place dance at the borders leaving little prints in the snow that gathered on the grounds, debating with himself if he wanted to cross over into the lands that didn't smell like home. Debating if it was worth the talking to he would surely get...

Was it worth it?

He took a step further into the neutral lands.

It certainly seemed like it.

It didn't look dangerous out there and he was so fast now! He could run home if danger reared its ugly head, he could run so fast and it would only be for a little while! Mom and dad didn't have to know...

Ulrik wasn't the only pup to have a sense of adventure. If he wasn't running off then surely Runar would, within reason of course, but today it was both brothers that had single-handedly made their way down to Vanderfell's borders. It was the first time he had wandered so far, but no one called for him, so he assumed it was alright. Heavy paws pushed through the light cover of snow, unbothered by the cold, more amused as he found himself able to send the white powder flying.

Only once he caught sight of Ulrik would Runar stop too. He tried to be silent in his approach, but he had been much too noisy before noticing his company. It still wouldn't stop him from trying to tackle his wayward brother. Brave steps, Brother! Runar hasn't been so far. Then cheekily he'd glance behind them before nearing Ulrik's ear to whisper, Mother would be mad.

Just about to take a step across the scented border, he wondered how deep the scent markings went before they disappeared... just how wide were their walls or was it just a thin line? He didn't quite understand how it worked just yet and a puppy's curiosity was strong.

Only to be stopped by the sound of clumsy paws tumbling through the brush. No more graceful than the mottled boy himself. Whipping around quickly with awkward paws, he nearly tripped over himself quickly flashing between concern and glee.

“Runar!” He tried to whisper it but still came a little too loud with the lack of voice control at this age and practice he didn't bother doing. “Mommy and daddy will be proud I am this brave.” No, Ulrik knew better than that and he was certain Runar was right if mom knew.

“You're not gonna tell are you?” Brows furrowed at his question. Unsure what he could do to keep Runar quiet about this little adventure of his.
