Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Sienna was already ablaze with curiosity. Not so soon after she'd roused, the girl had taken to the glade she'd woke within, utterly smitten with the cascades of gold piercing through leaves and branches. She'd already adorned her fur with bloomed yellow colors, placed haphazardly within tumbling waves.

Remnants of her breakfast lay smeared across the tan fur of her mouth, a branch of berries hung within. Though she was alone, Sienna hadn't really thought much about it. She was used to the absence, but even a girl used to loneliness longed for the friends that gave her an ounce of something different.

A huff left Sienna as she dropped in a heap of limbs and fur, soft petals cascading around her before they settled just as much as she. At her paws was a small pile of dirt, strewn carelessly with each gentle swipe of one of her claws. Boredom, it trickled from her like a leaking faucet.

Confusion. This was what took the forefront of his thoughts as he awoke in yet another strange place. How short a time it had been that he'd arrived in Mythris and now ─ this, it didn't seem like the place he'd been at all. So unlike it, and so like it at once. The medic had risen with a start, head bobbing and eyes blinking rapidly against the golden light that filtered through the giant oaks one of which he was laid beneath. Back pressed against its strong bark, but where ─ where was Sienna?

He'd only just begun to get comfortable, find meaning in those lilac eyes. Memories flickered back to their last conversation and the crown she'd placed upon his head and it brought him to his feet.

But before he could make it far, there was a mound of fur sprawled out in the grass; '...this feels right. kind.'  and ─ "...Sienna?" he wondered saying her name before he could stop it from tumbling out of his mouth as he approached trying to hide the quickness of his strides ears tightly finding the top of his head.

Regret. It was palpable in the shine of periwinkle eyes, clinging to her like old, sodden cloth. Had it been her? Had she wandered too far, stepped across the wrong line, tripped the wrong wire? When, in all the time she'd been alone, was it suddenly not enough for her? When had she begun to crave the smiles and laughter—the back and forth?

Sienna's ears lifted as her name was called, the whisper of regret scurrying in the presence of Triage's chase. She didn't know what feeling it was that settled over her heart at the sound of his voice, or what the warmth meant as it bloomed within her chest. But she wasn't alone anymore and Triage, Triage, had come—he'd found her.

And yet, as she stumbled to her feet, the girl didn't know what to say. In the wake of all that was familiar, all that they knew, he was here. Suddenly, worry flooded Sienna's gaze, concern swimming from cheek to cheek. "You are here." Her displeasure was prominent as small, hurried feet guided her closer. Gentle paws came to push at his chest once she was within proximity, adamance ever present in the fervent shake of her head.

"You can't be here, you must go." He had a life, one certainly not here. And though she wished for him to stay, there was already too much he'd gone through. Too much he's had to sacrifice. A huff fluttered the wisps of fur at her cheeks, but her touch relented none.

He did not get the warm greeting he'd been hoping for, to see the joy flit across her features made this predicament worth it. But it was concern that etched her delicate features as she clambered to her paws. Triage met her concern with his own, brows knitting and ears pivoting back slightly. "You are here." but she was not happy that he was here, and Triage began to thumb through a list of things he could have potentially done wrong to upset her so.

He searched her face, his concern deepening as she pushed a paw into his chest to physically push him away. He took a hesitant half step back even though the push didn't actually move him "You can't be here, you must go." "You do not want me here?" he asked, half a statement, half a question; confusion etching his voice. "....where else would I go?" he asks, a slight hardly noticeable tilt of his head. He had nothing else, no one else, no where else.

His confusion was met with her own, scrambling over top each other until rationality won out. Had Sienna truly mistreated him so? Were her words, urged to guide him back wayward—back to his home, were they not cast in as much pain as she felt? She did not want him to leave; if nothing else was clear, surely that must be.

Her adamance faltered in the face of his words, her face falling as she withdrew slowly, hesitantly. “You think I don’t want you here?” The girl frowned and took a sharp breath. ”How can I assume you’d want to be?”

What could she do but accept the chance that he might long for the world he’d lost? She did. She’d wished and yearned for a home that was given to her, blooming with strokes of color she’d painstakingly set upon her weathered canvas. That was all…gone now. The memories remained but her spirit had withered slightly at the edges, frayed petals wilting.

“We don’t belong here, Triage. This isn’t our home. I miss home.”

Her own features alter, determination quick to fizzle. “You think I don’t want you here?”  he wasn't sure. ”How can I assume you’d want to be?” the man stifled a sigh, his confusion shifting and softening. "I don't know..." he admitted. Him and Sienna truly didn't know each other well; and she hadn't known that he had nothing back there, nothing here either. Only her ─ a flickering light that had begun to offer him a sense of reason. Triage wasn't certain if she would stay, if she would want to continue to be this budding light in this life after death but he would hold onto her as long as she would allow him.

"but I didn't have anything there " it was a poor attempt at some type of reassurance.

“We don’t belong here, Triage. This isn’t our home. I miss home.” his eyes softened, tufted ears dropping slightly. He didn't share the sentiment but he didn't want Sienna to feel this way. "It wasn't home either, not at first ─ but we made it one" he tried to remind her, all of them as far as he could recall had been dropped there too. "We can do it again" it was an offer, a hand extended.
