Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

bundles of greys and ilk trudged forth from the unknown path. the last thing he could remember was falling asleep, following the sweet lullaby of an enchanting scent. now, his withered eyes glimmered in a whole new world. built from tranquility and beauty, the realm he seemed to escape to was a dream world. or at least something of the sort. perhaps it was his version of heaven.

the sweet melodies of songbirds chimed around him, painting the most romantic of scenes. however, what he didn't expect was the unknown guest. or rather, sun. threaded from the finest silk of shimmering gold sat the most beautiful creature he has ever seen. she was sculpted by the gods of the earth and sun, and her eyes... they forced the man to fall completely and utterly still. never in his life had he seen such vibrant, beautiful pink eyes. they rivaled the most enchanting sunset and reminded him of the most brilliant of flowers. for the first time in a while, wick felt his heart set ablaze.

 "who are you?"

Here, in the glowing light of the radiant sun, Persephone hummed her silly little song as she watched the birds flit among the branches of the trees above. Even the squirrels gathered close, though why they were not afraid, Persephone could not say. She was happy they were here though! Squirrels were cute, as were the small, rotund avians that sang with her. This place… she felt so relaxed, as she hadn’t in so very long.

And then, it shattered.

who are you

Dappled honey whirled to face the rough and gravelled voice, kunzite eyes wide, even slightly fearful. Suddenly, the birds were quiet. The squirrels had disappeared, diving away into the underbrush in the face of this… very large predator. He was as black as the night, with eyes that shone like the edge of an assassin’s blade.

And still somehow, standing before this beast, the Greek girl felt compelled to answer.

“Persephone…” she responded, ears turned backwards as she regarded the fearsome man.

“Did you—” She cleared her throat, hoping it would help the slight waver to her voice, disappointed when it did not. “did you need something?”

he couldn't imagine why he suddenly spoke. why he so brazenly announced himself to a girl who was very clearly occupied...but she answered.

her tone was gentle like a song and sweet like honey. it paired well with her golden threads and large, doe shaped gems for eyes. the aura the woman displayed outwardly was something between sincerity and innocence... but there was a flicker of remembrance that slithered down his spine. a chaotic thrill that gathered at her core - there was more to her than the eye lets on.

eyes of emptiness stared at her idly, analyzing her briefly as he again thought of her name. persephone. the simplicity in it. the implications of it. it suited her well. to prove it, the beast granted his tar-like lips to pull back into what he could only assume was a gentle smile. his intentions were not to frighten - but he wasn't seeking her warmth. in truth - he was confused...because whete the hell was he.

"persephone - bringer of destruction," the masculine bellowed. "a fitting name. but im curious if you know where we are? i have no memory of coming here..." wick mused a bit sheepishly, a contrast to his monstrous appearance.

“I... Destruction...?”

Her ears fell slightly, blonde brow furrowing at the thought of bringing such a terrible fate to someone, anyone.

Persephone frowned, ignoring his question to instead look at him with what was likely supposed to be a glare and instead looked more akin to a pout. “That's very rude to say to someone you just met.”

her frown, which was promptly followed by a pout caused the man to falter. Slowly... he blinked, as if trying to register why she was upset. She had known what her name meant, correct? Why was it an insult?

confusion was clear as he stared at her, trying to work through the kinks. "persephone, in greek, means bringer of destruction," wick responded a bit more softly, as if unsure of whether or not he should answer. "i had assumed you knew what your name meant," the man coughed awkwardly. Suddenly, his size seemed to shrink as the goliath tried to back pedal. good going on making everyone uncomfortable, he scolded quietly to himself.

 "uh- ... sorry."

“I am Daughter of Spring, not the bringer of destruction.” She did not know what her name entailed, for her mother had never told her, not in all the years she'd taught Persephone to be who she was today. Besides, how could she bring destruction when she didn't even have any powers? Her mother could grow anything, while she seemingly had a black thumb paw.

But he apologized, and... well, she had always been a believer in second chances.

“I appreciate your apology, Lord...?”

Daughter of Spring.

It hit him like a slap. The sound itself echoed within his ears, his eyes widening in remembrance. Or - what shrouded pieces he could pluck. For some reason, those few words scratched an odd part of his brain.

lord. The word made his face visibly cringe at the outlandish title. "wick - no lord. just... wick." it had been so long since he had just been himself. no other titles and hardships shackling him down. here, in whatever world he managed to find himself in - he was just himself.

"what brings you out here, persephone?" he mused a bit more casually. Seeing that she seemingly forgave his slip, he decided it would be best to take the second chance with grace.

“Wick. Well...” Should she? “I accept your apology, Wick.” Her tail flickered behind her, kunzite eyes yet to stray from the mass of predatory muscle before her. Mother had always told her to not trust men, to always remain wary of their lies and deceit. For the first time in... she could not remember how long it had been since she stood in a man's company. Alone.

“I'm not sure... I woke here and nothing looked familiar.” But then nothing since she'd woken had, now that she thought about it. But it was all so pretty, so relaxing... Almost... Like a dream.
