Morning Fog

The fog came back, but it wasn't too bad compared to previous days. It gave a light wave to the area around, a hidden look to the ocean ahead but didn't stop the woman from entering the waters. The patrolling of earlier indicated no one was nearby herself, and she had dediced to take a moment of break to hunt. Her stomach growled, and paws ventured toward the bay.

As the fog was slowly growing heavier, she decided not to take a deep swim for the moment and remain with light catches. Some of the fish during the waves would wash to the lightest side, before disappearing back into the depths. Her presence disturbed them, and at the moment avoided.. So Vendrussel awaited in the waters, time passing until the fish would return and scurry around her, and she could make her attack.

Patience was key when it came to fishing.

As Galatea carefully padded along the beach, she found herself surrounded by fog. Never before had she stepped into this area. She found that if she squinted, she could make out some shapes here and there, so it wasn't all that bad. Though, she was still on high alert, with her ears pricking forward. There were lots of things that could hide within fog and catch you while you're unguarded. For good measure, she pointed her nose upwards to smell the air.

She soon picked up the unmistakable scent of icy seas, and was overcome with joy. She ran in that direction and stopped when that coat of blue-gray and white came into view. The woman looked right at home within the fog-cloaked waters. "Vendrussel?"

With time, the fish were slowly coming around her feet. A bubble of excitement lifted to Vendrussel's face, for in the distance she could see a rather large on hovering. Most likely wanting to take a snack on the smaller ones, but if came just a bit closer.. She could take it for herself. However the shores was too shallow for it too, and it remained in the distance — so she took, a literal leap of faith!

However it seems she overestimated the dive. As her body moved the water and rippled through, she charged at the fish, but it started to flee. The water moved and she caused a grand splash, attempting to at least nab the fish with her fangs, or make it appear in the air for a quick catch — unfortunate though, for all that time and waiting, nothing came through. She snapped at nothing but air, and the fish swam away and away, as did all the smaller ones.

She huffed in an annoyance, stomping lightly and turning back to the shore — except a familiar voice was within the distance. She could smell as well, and a golden figure approached that lighten the mood a bit. She came forward, shaking the water out of fur as she grinned at the fairy, "How are you Gala?"

Gala gazed on in awe at how effortlessly Vendrussel seemed to move within the water. She had to admit that it made her feel a tad bit jealous. Her movements exuded grace and power, and it was obvious she had ages of experience. Meanwhile, Gala was like a bumbling newborn foal compared to her.

She beamed with joy when the sea wolf greeted her. The way she grinned brightened up her whole day, making whatever else she was thinking about seem unimportant. "I'm doing fine. It's nice out, so I decided to take a little stroll."

Taking a few tentative steps towards the shore, she stopped near where water met sand. The waves lapped at her toes, but she didn't flinch this time. "Are you fishing today?" she asked.

She gazed around, a small chuckle emerging, "It's hard to tell within the brim, the fog rarely leaves it." She noticed quite a few times that though sun radiated outside and blazed the land in a glory, it rarely penetrated the endless mist that laid within. Maybe it had to do something with the monster? The beast that they never seem to see, besides the unruly calling that it gave at times.. For the moment, they were within the clear... Vendrussel thought that such a calling would scare the golden wolf.

"Yeah, but it seems my luck isn't here today." There was a sight to her smile, looking back to the waves ; her cache remained empty and the fruit of this endeavour was without any meals. She'd offer Gala a fish, if she had any.

Gala briefly looked behind herself, seeing how the fog nearly obscured her surroundings. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

When she first entered the brim, she had found herself unnerved by the fog. There was also the strange ghostly sounds, though she mostly chalked it up to her imagination trying to get the best of her. But now that she was with company, all of her worries had begun to erode away.

"Ah, really?" The doll tilted her head with a small frown. With some uncertainty, she stepped a bit further into the water. She peered into it with a squint, trying to make out the dark shapes of fish swimming around. "I wonder how you do it. It seems like its pretty difficult."

Vendrussel was beaming when the other started to step into the ocean, remembering quite well she mentioned being afraid of such waters. It looks her fears were gradually dimming away, and that was a good sign, she thought. The sea was a wonderful place once one knew to respect it as well as fear, although dangers may lurk, it was beautiful as any wolf out there was. A home to her and many more, so she hoped Gala too would like it.

"It's a lot of waiting around," her paw splashed the water, it rippled lightly from all the fish that ran, "they return after some time with no movement."

Gala watched in fascination as fish scattered in multiple directions at Vendrussel's movement. "I see..." A lot of waiting, huh? It made sense. Fish were just as skittish and wary as any other animal. It brought to mind the times she narrowly missed small rodents all because of one false move.

After some time, she spotted a decently-sized fish swimming near her paw. She was very much new to catching fish; but it wouldn't hurt to try, would it?

As she observed it, she began to carefully steady herself. She striked with jaws wide open, making a splash as she plunged her head into the water. But right when she thought she had succeeded, it sped away. The taste of saltwater filled her mouth, causing her to nearly gag. Her ears were folded back in complete shame when she resurfaced. "Damn it."

She chuckled lightly, watching the attempt Gala made on the hunt. She has gone a long way from the fear of water, to be able to plunge her head in for the hunt. Great strides, a proudness settling to the sea wolf to see any other. Although an attempt, it wasn't a successful one, "We often have to wait until they settle just enough, where they simply hover over the surface. It's easier — faster." But there was no shame in it, she thought, everyone had to start somewhere. Rather then so, Vendrussel would offer some tips.

"Close your eyes right before breaching the surface, both as well and only open inches away from it. The water drags you down with resistant, but our snouts are narrow enough for the glide through." Precision, really, with a bit of luck. Some could do it with their eyes open, others could not ; she found facing the water with eyes open was rather painful, and often distracting to the fish ahead. Closing one's eyes helped, especially for beginners, and to keep them close only when inches away from being splashed.

Gala tilted her head to the side in as she carefully took in what Vendrussel said. "Oh, really? That make sense."

The doll looked back at the waters surface and decided she would try once more. She waited and intently watched the fish once more, silently repeating the sea wolf's advice in her head. Eventually, a few slowly began to gather nearby; But this time, she waited a bit longer. After a few moments of silently watching, the fish hovered near the surface.

Well, here goes nothing.

Just like Vendrussel instructed, she tightly closed her eyes moments before plunging into the surface. Once her head was underwater, she opened her mouth to strike. The doll had found that she had more control now.

When she closed her jaws, they clamped down onto something.

Gala brought her head up again, and there she was with a small fish wriggling in her maw. She did it! She actually caught one! Sure, it wasn't a very impressive size; but it was still a victory for her. Her tail wagged happily as she looked at Vendrussel.

Vendrussel's tail swayed lightly in the distance, waiting as they did. The fog continued to roll in, but she could feel the soft breeze rushing by ; an indication of but a pleasant day despite what she could not see. Trusting, the maidens words it was — alas, she wondered why such a beast would plague these parts, but yet it gave the Ford a good protection against most, rogues and loners alike.. Though not the neighbors.

Her tail picked up once she went down, resurfacing with a fresh one within her maw, "bite down hard before it gets away," she warned with a grin, "they're easy to slip away." Quite true as well and sometimes even the smallest mishap caused a cut, for their fins and scales were quite sharp in the right setting. A few times in her younger days, she remembered being cut up by them..

"You did great."

You did great. Gala's heart skipped a beat when she heard that. She never really thought she did something that warranted such praise; But it still made her feel giddy nonetheless.

Making sure to tighten her grip on the fish, she stepped back onto the shore. After finishing it off, she set the now motionless fish down. Then she shook out her golden fur, droplets of seawater going in different directions.

"I can't believe I actually caught one." The doll looked down at her catch in awe, as if she had just struck gold. She was overjoyed, as it meant that she no longer had to solely rely on fruit and rabbits for food.

"Fishing is another way to acquire a meal. Some say we learned from the bears in the forests and developed it to wolves." Her tail swayed as she smiled, looking at the bright-fish. A prize to be and a sure meal for any, Vendrussel would personally say fishing is most likely one of the easiest way to get a dinner, but it was often a lot of patience to deliver then of the continual skulking around. One could always find them in bodies of water, but couldn't say the same for rabbits in the forest.

"Dine on your prize," Vendrussel smiled brightly, all the more wishing for her to feast upon what she personally caught. Something one caught personally always tasted better then something from the caches.

Gala tilted her head. "Bears, huh?" To her, it made perfect sense. She had once heard about how bears would patiently stand in the rivers in order to snatch up big, juicy salmon in their maws. Maybe one day, she could catch salmon just like them.

After Gala was given the okay, she eagerly dug into her catch. As soon as she took her first bite, her eyes seemed to light up with glee. It was unlike anything she had ever eaten until that point. A wonderful, light flavor with a hint of ocean brine.

With how small it was, she gobbled it up in only a few bites. Once she had finished, she smiled and licked her chops. "That was delicious! I'll have to go fishing more sometime."

Though, it would most likely be a while before she felt brave enough to venture even farther into the water. She doesn't know how she'll handle learning how to swim.

"If you normally are inland, rivers might be easier. Fish often go upstream, even in shallow areas. Less of a risk." She would soundlessly say of the risk of being washed away, or any fears that the woman has. Many times fishing within rivers and streams were an easier task then the ocean, although she would say that something about the salty-fish had an extra tang to it that she enjoyed more. But Salmon.. The special delicacy that bears also very loved, was a well-suited trade to grasp. She licked her lips in such a thought. That would be divine right now.

Gala nodded as she took in the information. "That's great to know." As she mostly roamed around inland, it would be more feasible for her to catch fish in the rivers. She then found herself wondering how freshwater fish tasted compared to ones in the sea.

Despite her lack of confidence, the doll was happy about how far she had come in the past few months. Initially, she wouldn't have even entertained the idea of stepping foot in deep water. She was grateful that Vendrussel was willing to aid her in overcoming that fear. Even if it still felt intimidating now, she found that she was less on edge about it overall.

She headed back towards the ocean waves and glanced at the sea wolf with a soft smile. "I think I'll try to catch a few more. Would you like to join me?" she asked.

Does this seem like a good place to start wrapping up?
