Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

It is a passing of forms from one life to another. A concert in which only the orchestra changes. But the music remains. Perhaps similarly to the sun-favored flesh that lay at the edge of the unknown. Bland and muted shades of moss green, dreary blues, and lifeless brown raked their claws along the shorn of an unknown hell. The land around her had seemingly been siphoned of its life, leaving a hollow land devoid of most life. As if remembering the blight that dotted their shabby shores, a bristling wind screamed across the outsider’s pelt. Its furious cries dragging its sharpened talons along the woman’s spine. In reaction, vibrant glacial eyes snapped open.

Mountain peaks, small and damp shrubbery, and glaciers the size of capsized lands were all that came into the dame’s view. Each ticking second that floated by was captured in eerie and uncomfortable silence as panic ebbed into confusion. Nothing about the situation made sense, and the golden haired girl just couldn’t wrap her mind around it.

The world around her was swimming in clouded judgement and a faded past that was just out of reach. It seemed, off of first glance, that she must be standing at the edge of the world, seeing what gifts the sea had left for her to find… and the gift came in the lumbering form of another.

Before she herself could grasp what was going on, a different silhouette had peaked into her view. The mass was a complete contrast to her own. Forged and melted from obsidian and brass, the man was like a plague. His sudden appearance not welcomed by the newly distraught woman.

Refusing to back down from either a fight or confrontation, torvi slowly began to rise. Her movements were slow and methodical but were executed with a doe-like grace. Her imperial blue eyes stared the brute down, an unwavering determination stationed within her pools. She would not be moved, bullied, or pushed around. Not until she could figure out what happened to herself – and her body.

remember what you must do when they undervalue you. when they take your softness for weakness. when they treat it like an advantage. words of humble advice she had once written in a novel seeped into her marrow. an unusual calm sweeping over her physique, encasing her in an imaginary bubble. a barrier against this brute's thick skull.

a curious and intrigued brow shot skyward as her lips flicked up into an unknown smirk. a mischievous glint shimmered in her lifeless eyes, her gaze completely devoted to the beast before her.

he was... captivating. forget stardust - he was iron. his blood was nothing but ferrous liquid. when he bled, he would reek of rust. it was iron that filled his heart and pumped through his veins. and what was iron, if it wasn't forged? he was sculpted into a tenacious and glorious iron statue. and he was strong. if this wasn't such a weird dream - perhaps she would have thought this a great introduction for a romance novel. the unrefined brute and the defiant but smart, lovely, and pretty heroine being the only one to quell his heart. but his blunt words and ridiculous voice snapped her from her vision.

her body reacted on its own - her tail rising and the fur that lined her spine reaching towards the heavens. ivory kissed teeth were lathered in a thin layer of saliva as a low, warning bellow rumbled from her breast. her eyes flared with a new challenge as she huffed. "i asked first - so indulge me. you are no more special than i am." her words were blunt and held a certain edge - worry. shed be damned if she gave him her name first, but in her current state...she was literally all bark and no bite. if he decided to attack her, ... gods. she didnt want to think about it. besides - she asked first! it's common curtesy to answer questions in the order they were asked. huff.

"i will tell you my name when you tell me yours... real or not." her words came off a bit softer as her tail lowered to a neutral position, her pelt settling back down to its usual airless precision. her eyes held that same, gurgling anger, but she was smart enough to pick and choose her battles. if he had ill intentions, torvi would easily remove herself from him. no need to start a fight with a stranger she may never meet again. no matter how handsome.
