Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

I don't Understand how to Post?

This might sound stupid, but for some reason I cannot figure out, for the life of me, how to make a proper post of Olin "spawning in", if you get what I mean. The guidebook really doesn't explain it in a way I understand (Sorry if there's something else that explains this, I'm just quite confused).

You've joined with your first character! Now what? Our recommendation is to start an AW (All Welcome) thread in the place where your character "wakes up." In Canis, wolf characters always come from somewhere beyond — how they get here is anyone's guess. Some characters seem to just appear. Others wake in a weird place, or wash up on a beach. It's your choice!
Your character can start in Canis anywhere you want, though be aware that if they awaken in a claimed territory, they might be kicked out by the resident wolves!

Additionally I'm assuming you read this page but in case it was skimmed or missed the setting explains a bit more too.

To reword a bit, wolves on canis wake up (anywhere on the map you would like). They don't notice a "spawn in" but they weren't there before. Your character will likely notice that it wasn't where they were before or bare minimum, that they dont remember sleeping there but maybe they're a bit turned around. To everyone else they simply appeared like they fell asleep there. You don't have to wake up in a traditional sense; you can have fun with the prompt and they blink only to be falling out of the sky (good idea to land in a body of water so you dont break all your bones), wake up buried in the snow/claw out from the earth, you can wash up on a shore, or maybe its just a comfy bed of flowers. Really it's up to you we don't put a ton of restrictions on it. If you're having trouble picking a place to wake up, our magical regional locations are typical "spawn points" for characters

Regional Magic Spots

Every region contains a point of interest that is magical, such as Wezen's Isles. Many characters awaken at these strange places. They cannot be claimed and any scent markers mysteriously vanish from them.

All magic spots are identifiable on this map minus Jaggedspine Valley, which got marked blue for some reason after submission approval and hasn't been fixed yet.

Feel free to add on if you're still confused or have more questions!

Yes, I understand that, but why does the text break when I use the tools? Apologies if this is explained as well. Also, is there a tag besides AW that I should use when posting a "waking up" thread? And how do I make the warning thing, because the post I have pre-written has some darker topics.

Are you able to post a screenshot? I'm not quite sure what you mean by the text breaking, but if I had to guess it has something to do with post formatting code potentially being doubled by any manual code you are inserting. The post formatting (found in your edit profile settings) is automatic coding that will apply to all IC posts so you do not have to code it each time you write. It doesn't show when you are writing, but will in the preview and final post.

AW is fine we don't have a tag specifically for entry/wake up posts. As for content, yes! Please use the content warning tag. It's separate from the AW tag so you can use both on one thread. You'll type content warning in the tags: text box that appears just above the post text box and select a reason for the warning (or write your own under other). As a note, the content warning tag is per post, so if more posts follow and should have warnings, make sure to add it to each post that contains any disturbing, sexual, or otherwise warning-worthy content.
