Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

A quiet hush blanketed the glade, a heavy mist settling within the air and hung low to the ground. It fortified around the base of a thick grove of trees, one of which Darling lay curled at it's base amongst it's thick roots. At her belly, a chipmunk curled up in its own sleep, it's small body rising and falling with it's deep, slumbering breaths, and automatically in her sleep, Darling's paw twitched against him as if checking he remained.

In her won slumber, deep and otherworldly, the Sprite dreamt. She dreamt of home, following through like a camera as her mind moved through the roots and ferns, slipping through a fallen log and its sprouting fungi, and a rabbit that peaked its head from its burrow in the distance. Darling shifted in the roots, humming softly in her sleep as the pictures burst behind her eyelids, her dream vivid in its entirety, until she stirred sometime later.

Darling blinked sleepily as if she had not woken in centuries, stretching against the roots and moss, her movements slow and languid.
"There now," she murmured as she lifted a dainty paw to rest atop the thick root at her nose, "rest easy." How old it must be, she wondered, and yet still so sturdy. A paw, she realised. Not what she expected, and vastly different, and curiously the Sprite lifted it to try and touch at her head — her mushroom gone.

"Hm," she rumbled as she glanced down to stirring at her belly, and the difference in their dynamic now was clear. There lay Daragh — she would know him anywhere, regardless of the shift in their sizes. "Daragh, sweet boy," the Sprite leaned down to rouse him from his sleep with her nose, the forest alive but quiet around them.
