Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

great stone spires made pin cushions out of the hovering storm clouds, their peaks disappearing into the grey.

the volatile mass rolls down the sharp slopes, engulfing the hardy pinewood thickets, a herd of meandering goats and lastly, the lands of Wolf.

upon a jagged cliff, something both black and brown stirs. the pup awakens somewhere frigid and wind-licked, and immediately lets out a soft whine.

where was мама? where were the blankets and the basket, and the squirming of warm bodies besides its own?

stubby legs supported it enough for the babe to approach the edge. it stuck its head over it, but the still-sharpening eyesight couldn't reveal what laid below. fear began to creep into its little heart.

it let out a squeal-bark, enhanced in volume and repeated manyfold by the mountainous terrain.

The sound of pitched cries drew the High Queen near as she rounded her patrol. Ira had nearly finished checking the parameters when her ears caught the sound, a cry any mother would recognize as distress. Curious she sought out the noise, though as she neared she would soon find no pup in dire need...at least, not to her expectations. What did await was an odd-looking creature one could feasibly argue was a pup, though its fur curled in a strange manner she had never seen before and its small head seemed stunted at the muzzle.

Unnatural was a light way to put the child's appearance... though no matter its looks it appeared to be alone. Abandoned perhaps though she smelled no other foreign scents but this one. Perhaps it was shame and with no desire to care for a malformed pup, the mother had abandoned it here in the hope someone else would care for her mistake or finish what she could not. Ira approached with caution as she looked to sniff the child for any lingering scents. Though she may have no desire to do what she must, she would should no one come to care for the pup, if that's truly what it was. It would be mercy and far more pleasant than a starving mouth amongst many looking for their own meal, especially should the child have more hidden health abnormalities.

its cry rung high, up the mountains, and then came back down to the crier, the pup growing more frightened with each passing minute.

the clicking of loose stones had its head turning, expecting, for a moment, the white presence of its mother, or the longfingers looming and godly, but what its vision showed combined them both.

tall and oddly dark, long legged and moving down the rocky side as if flowing, the stranger soon filled its vision. the babe stood frozen with fright, little tail sticking up and eyes wide as a large nose came near and sniffed it over.

once the muzzle retreated, it would gather enough courage to crane its neck and speak; "...мама?"

it was a baseless guess, but it was better than letting the stranger remain a mystery.

She smelled nothing, nor did a guardian come rushing in to be a saving grace. Instead, the poor thing only cried out for his mother, but she was not its mother. She had taken in one once before, though he was old enough to contribute and care for the pack. This one she could not even be certain if it was even a wolf let alone if it would survive without a mother's milk... so with no pleasure she would make one final glance for the rushing aid of another before she reached down to swiftly oft the child.

Her fangs would find purchase at the back of its neck and perhaps more due to its size, though she would be sure to make it quick. Severing the weak connection at the spinal cord she pulled spirit from flesh. Once the deed had been done she would pull back with a whisper on her lips, Finne trøst i stjernene. After a moment of silence she would carefully grab the now-empty vessel to bury in the ruins.

the face came closer. the long snout left its field of vision. it though, when it felt hot breath upon its back, that it'd be picked up and carried home, where this bad dream could end between the warmth of sibling, blanket and nipple.

( but there was no waking from the Dreaming )

a single yelp came out as the maw engulfed the back of its neck, teeth so large it couldn't distinguish the crushing from the piercing. it was a searing feeling the child had never once felt before, and it engulfed it tail to nose.

the agony was immortalised when the neck and spine were crushed shut, the squeal choked by a sputter of blood. it had luck; the damage shut its body down immediately, so that the suckling-grey eyes rolled back into the sockets, the grey world of mist, rock and spires briefly made a vertical panorama before turning black, and then-

and then, nothing.

well, that's that folks. not all puppies deposited in nowhere land are bound to survive. tysm for this thread asori <3
