Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Cold. Unfamiliar. Wrong.

The Grand Sin stirred, consciousness returning like embers struggling against dying coals. His body—his form—felt heavy, sluggish, as though it had been wrenched from one existence and carelessly thrown into another. The air around him was thick with an eerie stillness, broken only by the distant murmur of unseen waters and the restless rustling of wind through twisted trees. The scent of damp earth and unfamiliar flora invaded his senses.

This was not his domain.

Slowly, he opened his eyes. A sky he did not recognize stretched above him—neither the crimson-stained horizon of conquest nor the abyssal void of judgment.

He pushed himself upright, rolling his shoulders, feeling the weight of displacement settle deep into his bones. Where was he? And more importantly—who had dared to tear him from his path?

Then, movement.

A presence.

Not one of his own.

His head snapped toward the disturbance, instincts sharp despite the lingering haze of forced transition. There, a short distance away, lay another figure—still, unmoving, but unmistakably alive.

A woman.

She did not bear the markings of his order, nor did she resemble any soul bound to his dominion. Yet, she too had been cast here, into this fractured world of. This vast land unknown. He watched as her chest rose and fell in shallow breaths, her own awakening imminent.

His expression remained impassive, but his mind burned with questions. Why was she here? Why had they both been brought to this place? If this was a game of some unseen force, then he would not play it blindly. Or maybe it was merely a dream? It did not feel like one.

Stepping forward, his voice cut through the unnatural hush like a blade.

“Wake. Speak your name.”

The demand was not a request. If she was an ally, she would prove herself. If she was an enemy—he would see how long this strange land could remember screams.

Her whole being, it feels.. miserable, empty—while simultaneously traipsing through time, clawing back through the holds of eternity. With every ebb and flow of its endless current, she finds a moment to resurface; every time she does, she's searching for that force she's felt for as long as time has existed.

She felt it here, wherever that place and moment in time may have been. She'd been suffocated by it trapped by it—killed by it. But here, here it welcomed her, it reached for her and she could feel the darkened tendrils of this place pulling her in.

For a brief moment, she is content; unfamiliar warmth caresses her as she rests and once more she feels the familiar snap of existence and reality in an instant.

But it's here; she can feel it, whatever it is as it beckons and tugs at her. She wants to chase it as it slowly fades, as if being chased away by something or someone else. Her body twitches, gently jolting her with a sense of awareness and she's already recognized this form she's been dressed up as for this moment in her time.

The entity that lingers with her is not what she felt just moments before, its demanding rather than coaxing as deep chords thrum from above her. "Wake. Speak your name." Her eyes flicker open slowly, her head laying between forelimbs.

She glances upwards through a lidded gaze, her body slowly rising as her mismatched hues trail up a long leg to find the ominous figure that looms over her. There is a fiery gaze that melts over her, draws her attention in fully the moment shes on all fours.

A smirk is daring to dance at the corner of lips, paws csrrying her forward effortlessly as if shes been im this body for centuries. Her curves play in to her scheme brought about on a whim. He wanted a name, and she would give him one—one he would cry out when she's leeching the life away from his body.

She wanted to play, first.

Slender frame steps closer to the man, innocence settles in on her features.  Strangers, and yet familiarity lingers between us, no? Poisonous, honey sweet chords drip from her muzzle as she approaches him. Every ounce of feined innocence remains intact as she anchors her space closer to his, watching him as she pivots past the front of his massive frame. Only a breath of a moment allows her to breath him in and he her—before she digs her paws into the ground beneath and runs. Through towering trees, sending birds from tree top to tree top with her presence. She is still adjusting to the limbs that carry her, still honing in her senses—but she's determined to give the man that woke her with a demand a run for his time and energy.

He gives in, she can hear his decision just seconds after she tears away from him. His thunderous footfalls and growls of darkened ambition chase her just as fast as his own body does.

Her limbs work, relieved to be stretching as if she's been left curled in a ball for ages; she slows to allow brief moments for him to close the gap between them, only to have her move faster and force him to continue after her.

With a few more strides, the towering trees part before her and open a path that leaves a flowing fiver beholden to her mismatched hues. Her paws find the beginning of the water bank, her frame shifting down dirt and pebbles as she takes for the flowing water. He's getting closer, and she's getting slower as she attempts to navigate the terrain. Shes had yet to acknowledge the oddity that was her surroundings, but she's too busy focusing on the darkness that's nipping at her heels.

She's padded across rocks and tree trunks, careful in her footing as she hastily moved about the rivers obstacles. There's an object she doesnt pay much attention to as she lunges for it, only aiming for footing as she finds herself laughing into the middle of the flowing waters.

It happens all at once: she's landed on a firm, natural yet still unnatural platform and attempts to right herself—until she feels the sting and pull of teeth in her hind leg. A snarl vibrates up her leg and before she has time to move, to react in any way but how she's commanded to do so, she's trapped between his forelimbs, his massive frame crowding what space there is for the both of them on the platform.
