Some time had passed since their arrival in this stunning land of snow and ice. Kirain stretched, her muscles stiff from inactivity, and a low, aching growl rumbled in her stomach. She had been too enthralled by the new sights and scents to bother with food, but now her body protested her neglect. It was time to hunt.
Rising to her feet, she scanned the landscape beyond her temporary shelter. The forest seemed the most promising, its depths veiled in shadow, teeming with unknown possibilities. As she trotted past @Nanuktaaq she called out, her voice light with invitation.
“Nanuk! I do believe it’s time to hunt. Care to accompany me?”
Flashing her a bright smile, she continued toward the tree line, her pace steady and sure. At the forest’s edge, she lowered her head, pressing her nose to the cold earth. A deep inhale, searching, sorting, analyzing. The faintest scent teased her senses, and she set off, moving with careful precision.
There were too many unknowns. She had no way of knowing what game might be available, nor how scarce food had become in the depths of winter. But she had to try. Starvation was an unforgiving foe, and she had no intention of falling to it.
Pushing those thoughts aside, she refocused. Hunting required patience, awareness, and above all, sharp instincts. And she would need all of them now.
