Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The sweet taste of freedom. Nothing seemed better. He'd spent years being looked down upon. But no more!

It had only been a short while since Malric had announced the disappearance of his little plaything. When he heard this, he only though good riddance. His brother didn't need anyone else to breath down the neck of and command like he owned the damn world. Maybe he was once meant to be a king, but not anymore.

Sleeping and stopping for a bite to eat when he could, the days molded into one another. He'd grown tired of walking, but what else was there to do? He wanted as far away from the ruins as he could get, consequences be damned.

But who knows, maybe something would come out of this little venture of his. Hopefully something good. He was in dire need of a little reward for bidding his time and being the good younger brother and servant he'd been forced to become.

A fox's cry born from a hyena's laughter trickled over the fields.

Halfhearted whimpers whined out while the woman's belly dragged along the ground, tail shivering across soft grasslands. Her eyes moved quickly, the spire of those long dark ears poking through the valley before disappearing to smooth down against her head. Soft-footed steps quietly moved the imp along, quickly firing after a thick-bellied grouse. All that could be felt was the pangs of hunger. For so much time alone, and so much time wandering, sticking to the heart of shadows and away from the skylight so that the sun did not reach her disheveled face, it all caught up. That simple need to provide for oneself. Her tail spun in uncontrolled circles, rapid, chasing down a single meal.

The grouse took flight and narrowly missed the sharp closing of teeth springing into the air. A rough tumble to the ground, and Legend landed roughly on one side, and oh, no, she did not move. Instead, stayed down to whine, whimper, cry– beg, even, for a morsel to nothing but the lonely grasslands before standing to move again. Felt like prey in the open. Prey. Prey. Didn't like it here. Didn't like all the rogue smells that she couldn't make out. Didn't like all the noises. No, not at all, no, no, Legend didn't like it.

A whimper sounded in the distance, along with some other noises he couldn't interpret.

Being the nosy fuck that he was, unable to leave unknown alone, he traveled toward it with a coy grin.

Slowing his steps when he approached the clearly distraught wolf—if that's what you'd even call this shadowy thing—he quirked a curious brow.

“What's with all the noise, hm?” He mused, toying with the creature. Maybe it was a step too far. She was clearly in pain. But he'd been bored, and stepping on a few toes would surely sate his unsatisfied humor.

Stiffening, every limb stilled and moved no muscle. Those feral eyes of hers moved across the grass, traveling up the body of a being who neared. Someone that, decidedly, could end a problem, or fill the lust to create a new one. He smiled. Legend liked that smile, piped up to it, felt an itch scratch and soothe in that twisted head. Wanted more.

The tantrum swelled until finally the woman jolted up, splayed out to become much lower than the body of his own. Tapping the tip of her tail low, the woman's teeth bared in snippy frustration with a pulled up smile. Dolly eyes strained, upset! "It escape!" She fussed!
