Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

just a random stroll! feel free to hop in at will <3

The doe's footsteps were slow and gentle as they made their way across the cliff's edge. She graced an icy gaze into the depth of the water, her own mind wandering into fantasies of fish and sea creatures. Was it a curse to be a deer? It felt like she was prey to all, even her own kind, and master of nothing.

Yet "bottom of the barrel" is hardly how she'd describe it. Days of peaceful gracing, away from whatever hubbub other creatures got up to. She had less worries, she thought, that even other deer. Always concerned with hierarchy and who fit where. She fit nowhere, it seemed.
She was content with that, at least on the outside.

While they were busy trying to figure out where everyone fit in their little box, she was dealing with where she fit in the world.

Time had eluded her. Where fire once roared, where the wilt of decay should've consumed, where the hail of a roaring justification ceased—it was green. Long gone were the stone steeples of her home, the pristine spires that tempted the weather just beyond the clouds. The echoes of gloom remained—alive and calling to her still, wanting of everything she had to give and all that she’d lost. The shakiness of a weathered chill was absent, forgotten, left as nothing more than a cracking stone to be stepped on.

And so she did, hooves pressing into a land unrecognizable. Though her head felt heavy, her limbs too weak to carry, it was with an uncanny awareness that her gaze swept across the terrain with. It was with stern wonder that she found herself overlooking the rush of water beneath.

With the loss of all she knew, she might’ve jumped. To be consumed by the chilling depths, to feel her throat turn cold. But it was another that drew her attention, a deer just as she, with a color reminiscent of early morning skies. She approached not, but simply eyed them instead, thinking, wondering, questioning.
