Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

“dreaded weather.” she muttered as she rose to her feet. soleia wasn't fond of the cold. in fact, she loathed the way it made it difficult to travel. but seeing as how she no longer had to worry about the safety of roads and risk of freezing, the woman felt a sense of pleasure at the freedom this new form granted her. with a hum, the golden woman took to exploring the wintry landscape. the warmth of spring's sun kept the cold at bay, heating the fur of her back and neck.

the fresh powder clung to the wispy strands of her limbs, soleia did not feel as though it were terribly cold, just annoying. the large evergreens shielded her from falling snow when she paused to check her surroundings. though she would never have chosen to become an unsightly beast, it did have its perks. she could hear better, smell things she never would have noticed before. the quiet creaking of the conifers broke the silence while the soft cracking of ice could be heard in the distance.

as she walked towards what appeared to be a lake, her mind drifted to the past. one person she wished had joined her here was her beloved handmaid, yvarla. the woman had been at her side for almost all her life, the shadow that always managed to brighten the world during the darkest of days. the very thought of her made soleia pause. perhaps she was here as well. trapped in this, beastly form. leia wondered how they'd recognize each other but in her mind, she knew she would know upon seeing her. though the eyes could not see, the heart would.

mainly for @Yvarla but open for anyone to find them <3

Ruger would remain still as he regarded the woman down below, the odd tug of something unfamiliar twisting within his chest. It was a slight thing, scarcely noticeable, but he felt it regardless. The was a certain air of regality sat about her, unwavering as though it were natural, second nature to her very existence. That coupled with the way she moved, fluid and graceful, it fed into the picture she painted. The female was undoubtedly nobility, or so she had thought. It had been written within her posture, in the confidence that exuded from her being. A golden crown perched atop her head, unseen but somehow tangible, gleaming brilliantly against a sea of her amber robes and beckoning him to bow. Ruger snorted, indignant, resisting the pull. Nobility she may have been, but he bowed for no one, and he certainly wasn't going to start now.

The wolf remained unmoving, a statue of marble, stone cold and impassive as he watched her take in her surroundings. He'd noted the confusion, and as his tail flicked behind him, he'd wondered if perhaps they were in the same boat. A scowl pulled at his features as he contemplated just how often he would find himself in situations he couldn't control. Ruger loathed it, detested it, despised it with every fiber of his being. If he wanted something, he took it. There was no room for complacency, no reason to accept a fate that he hadn't chosen for himself. Not anymore. Not after what he had endured.

Though his thoughts drifted elsewhere momentarily, he'd returned his attention to the woman when she had begun to descend toward the lake below. Slender legs brought her gracefully to a stand, her fur rippling like satin over curves and slopes alike. Her features appeared soft and dream-like, as though she was recalling a world far unlike this one. Perhaps the disconnect from her reality is what allowed the man to remain concealed for so long. The winds shifted then, cascading ripples of snow from off the surface of the mountain into miniature whirlwinds that swirled atop the peaks and into the thick fur of his back. How long would it take her to acknowledge him now that his scent had been gift wrapped to her door?
