Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The remnants of her thoughts had emptied, leaving a blank slate of what had happened to her… core memories had entangled in her grasp only for them to slip past her fingertips. She hadn’t remembered - how she died at least. The rest came back like a moving picture, various emotions tugging at her heartstrings. Hatefulness turned into a simmering pot of anger, arranging to a guilty pleasure… a desire… a want. A need? An obsession? No, she would not allow her heart to give way too easily. Why was the man staring at her like that? Why wouldn’t he just…

“Let me go.” She shouted, stirring her awake in a strange world. She would turn her gaze in various directions. A scene of serenity and beauty exploded in her view, the trickling of a stream was heard in the distance. The sky was an inky purple, splashed with the brightest stars she had ever seen. Flickering lights cascaded the valley as fireflies illuminated the grounds. Sweetened scents rushed to her nose, not able to pinpoint just what it was.

She would turn to look at her forearm, noticing the fur that aligned her slender leg. A hue of soft creams and blonde painted her form, the flume of her tail moving behind her. She would look to see the waving appendage behind her. Peculiar? Was this her? She believed in reincarnation but she didn’t think it was possible to become this. She had hoped to be a bird… to fly away from him.

Had he followed her? She was unsure, but there was a sinking feeling in her stomach that made her think she should not give in hope so easily. Pushing onto her paws, she steadied herself. Wiggling her toes in the softened grass below, a smile pushing past her maw. Moving to lift her head, she would draw in a breath and howl. Musically introducing her presence, before her paws would rush her toward the meadow. Bounding and leaping in delight, the feeling of freedom. No longer trapped in a cage, the songbird could finally outstretch her wings.

He stretch, gloriously stretched as he lay in the meadow, a river winding across the land not far away. The sound was peaceful, something he did not often notice of. This place had some kind of magic spread through it, lulling him into some sense of ease, where his blood did not burn through his veins, and war did not paint his lips. It felt almost… dreamlike.

His thoughts dissipated instantly when he heard the howl, his great head lifting so that he could better hear, and focus on the voice. There was recognition that sparked his thoughts again, a slow smile curling its way across his maw. Mismatched eyes watched as the figure practically danced her way towards him, oblivious as to the monster that lay so peacefully relaxed in his spot among the grass, flowers flattened beneath his hulking form.

“I think you are following me, little lamb.”
