Like they existed behind frosted glass, Eleanor's dreams were obscure shapes and fragmented colors that no longer took form. Each new night spent in this foreign place brought her closer to them, though, until at last she thought she could breach the impossible distance once and for all. That was not to be, however, as her paw met the distorted surface and the vague images scattered as though she had just taken a sledgehammer to a windowpane, billions of broken dream shards wiped from her mind.
And through them tumbled Eleanor into the abyss.
When she rose again, the world had changed once more. No longer was she nestled in the small den she and Valther found to shelter in but now plains even more vast than the meadow unfurled before her. Sunset burned the sky an unnatural shade of violet, like nothing she'd ever seen before now. It was beautiful.
And it terrified her, not having her husband here to ground her. She shrank back, taking a single step backwards with her ears flattened against her crown. The amethyst necklace around her neck shifted slightly as she did so, catching in the spectral light.
