Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Freyja couldn't remember the last time she'd ventured out on her own, or left Morðfjall, for that matter. The cove was everything home was not—green, warm and free. The scent of her family didn't linger in every corner, nor did their presence. For the first time in her life, she was not hidden within the shadow of her older siblings. And the very thought brought a pep to her step.

The girl hummed a cheerful tune as she wandered the cove, her pale eyes studying the plants that sprouted along the sandy beach. She knew the saltiness of the area was not favorable for plant growth, but there they were—green shoots dotting the sand. Freyja happily leaned down to sniff at the leaves, trying to identify just what type it was. This was not common in Morðfjall, that much she could tell. Home was too, cold, for something like this. Though her home was covered in greenery, it could not compare to the green of the cove.

Freyja was not always the most careful when she left the pack's abode, though she knew she should be better about being aware of her surroundings. So when an unfamiliar scent wafted towards her, the girl had no idea of what she was going to do. She could always call for @Stjörnuáti but knew he was too busy with the pack and his offspring to come save her from her mistakes. The next best thing she could think of was to turn and call out a shaky, “Who's there!” and hope to the gods they were not out to harm her.

Frosted gold eyes had been more focused on the sky than the scenery of the cove. Restlessness had urged him to explore a bit more if this place he had been plopped in, the sight of birds circling in the distance had given him a destination.

Spidery limbs carried him in the birds' direction. He moved with little consideration of stealth for there was no need to stalk. Either something dead, dying, or as good as was waiting him beneath the ominous avian cloud.

Soil became sandy underfoot. His jowls wettened in anticipation of what he may find. He wondered if it was something big, like a beached shark or tuna. God, he would bite faces for tuna. It wasn't always just birds loitering around carcasses.

A startled voice had him abruptly stop in his tracks. Sand sputtered out in front of his skidding paws.

“Huh?”
