Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

It were a few hours before dawn when violet eyes first opened to reveal a world unknown to her, trees and mountains and stars that match nothing of the slender wraith's knowledge of the world. Dorothy-Mae lurched to her feet and took off running, put as much distance between her and the place she'd found herself as she could, breaking through underbrush and leaping over rocks and little hills until her paws had carried her to the water's edge, and she slowed to take a few deep breaths and think.

The water was clear and cool, and for all that the stars were otherworldly, the sun still rose in the east. She took comfort in the fact, and set out to explore what she could and get her bearings. There was no sign that Wilkes and his gang had survived their encounter after all, no tracks or scents that might indicate that any of her allies had been near or could be responsible for her relocation. There was nothing to guide her; she was lost.

And then...a scent. It tickled the back of her mind strongly enough to seize her attention, carried from upwind, but she had no idea what it meant. Dottie did sure put her nose to the ground anyhow, though, tracing through dirt and undergrowth further to the north and east from where she'd started. Her pace picked up as the scent got stronger, old instinct and training kicking in as she hunted down her quarry. Whoever, whatever they were, maybe they had some goddamn answers--

Oh, that was a cliff edge. Dottie yipped as she tumbled over it.
