Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Igor had decided he’d had enough of exploring the vastness that was his new home and instead settled on trying his paw at hunting. The scent of caribou had lured him in and his age showed its wisdom when he managed to find the sickly sweet smell of an old and sick female.

The only problem he faced now was the fact that he was built more for taking down these large creatures. His bulk didn't make him very fast; he wouldn't be able to keep up without some kind of chaser to slow them down. That said he certainly had the endurance to go for long periods of time if he paced himself. He could wear them out that way, but then that risked him having to drag the carcass back to the pack. No, it would be better if he had a partner, but he could do without just as well. He didn't know how long this herd would stay here and he wasn't eager to find out.

Igor was a man of action, but before he acted upon anything he observed. Observation tended to enlighten those who looked. This was no different.

She smelt of the pack he had found himself among and yet it wasn't as prevalent as it was on some of the other wolves he's seen in passing. He's seen her around, but never held a conversation with her. He wondered, given how she seemed to be hunting the same herd as he was, if she was willing to join his efforts. Only time would tell. Steele gray eyes briefly looked her over before he adjusted his position to chase his target into her direction.

He could not walk over and speak to her—that would blow his cover and he could not howl without giving his position away. He would have to have faith that she would understand what was left unsaid.

Tensing his muscles Igor readied himself before launching himself forward with flashing teeth and deep growls, spooking the herd as he forced himself between the healthy cows and the sick one.
