Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

callahan had been stayin' out longer, almost as if avoiding his responsibilities back home. he spent the recent days roaming the mountain range, camping in caves he found or out on overlooks. the truth was, he needed his freedom—especially if he were entrusted with leading the gang. if he weren't goin' to be like levi, he had to have his moments to roam.

but after spendin' close to a week away, the man had decided to descend from his hideaway and return to the rest of the gang. the new members were still needin' guidance and chances to adjust, and his absence was not very helpful. cal wanted them to feel like they were welcomed, and him hidin' away was not doin' that.

though cal knew the emergence of newcomers would be a persistent thing, the possessive thing within him reared its ugly head whenever a new arrival appeared in his valley. he let out a brief “who're you?” as he came up to the man, his brows hanging low over his eyes. his lip curled with a quiet growl, a sense of territorialism rising within him. callahan stood tall, chest rising with his steady breathing and confident attitude. he weren't lookin' for a fight, but he'd give one if they wanted it.

this was shorter but im hoping to work on that <3

There is no safe return of his call, instead, there is nothing for a while. Nothing but open mountains that don't rust with the umber color he's grown up around his whole life, but with verdant grasses and tinted snowy tops. A land full of life. And he realizes that he can't possibly be the only one here — but could he be the only one of them that was here?

The familiar sound of pawsteps made the male's head snap around, finding the source closer than he assumed him to be. His pawsteps more muted against the grass than the normal clicking of nails across the red rock. Rebel's eyes flew to the stranger's neck, finding it untethered by any chain or pendant, the lack of indentations on his fur from where one might have been. The stranger's voice caught him off-guard; assertive and clear, his stance on the defensive, which was to be expected. Bel's still felt weary, yet his heart hammered unevenly, “Rebel.” The cadet finally found his voice unscathed by the dryness of his throat. “My name.” Bel clarified, his gaze unrelenting as he studied the other; his stature was like Kemp's, way taller than he was, and built like bison, ready to take on whatever was thrown at him.

There were so many questions that fought over one another to be asked first, one trambling the other, holding his breath so he didn't stutter. “I'm sorry, I... I don't know where I am.” There's a pause in his voice as his gaze fixated on the area behind the stranger, seeing the mountains cut down and open into an endless horizon, then back to the other, “Are there...” He didn't quite know how to ask this question, if there were gods here or not, so he pushed that question down; he'd find out sooner or later on his own. “No, uh,” He could blame it on the fact that his head was spinning, still unable to grasp the concept of being alive. “I mean, do you mind tellin' me where I am?” He hated reliance on anyone else but his own, but Bel didn't have a choice. In fact, this could be the only wolf for miles that would have some answers for him.

pale eyes watched the stranger with an untrusting glint to them, not sure what to make of him. he could be just as lost as he once were, but with the increased appearance of strangers had him on edge. this one didn't seem like a danger, but he could never be too safe. not with the women around. “callahan.” the male's unwavering gaze had cal feelin' self-conscious, wonderin' if he too could see his ugly. a flick of an ear betrayed his false sense of confidence.

at the man's next question, cal's brows fell low over his eyes. he didn't want to believe this act, but somethin' in him knew they were sincere.

“ambarino valley.” cal replied, the thick muscle of his shoulders rollin' as he took steps around the stranger. he didn't smell like that stranger that had come 'round here some weeks ago, but his presence didn't make cal feel any better. “you just wake up?” he asked as he came back around to face the stranger, no, rebel.

The sun felt hot on his back, unrelenting; a harsh gaze like eyes bore through him — which was similar to the feeling of Callahan's glare. It's reminiscent in a way. If Bel hadn't been so overwhelmed, it might have been a bit much for him. Yet right now, his focus is elsewhere. Somehow, here and there, a million miles away, thinking about scorched land even though the greenery lay out in front of him. Normally, Bel would have said it was nice to meet him, but the pleasantries lay almost as far away as his mind.

The cadet's attention is grappled back by the name of the land. 'Ambarino Valley.' It didn't ring any bells. He stared back blankly for a moment, the wheels of his hazy brain turning —

“Wake up?” Bel echoed, confusion evident in his features — how did he know that? Did he look that jarred? Probably. The grogginess still felt heavy in his bones, his fur disheveled, shoulders remaining straight, but his overall stance looking sunken. “Yes...” He answered slowly, as if the information could be wielded against him.

Then it really occurred to him that he might be dead — and that this could all be some wild trick. Because surely a man from the rebellion of the Gods was not getting a place among the heavens — maybe the stars, as they all burned into one at one point — “Am I dead?” Better to ask and know than to speculate, let his brain run rampant with thoughts that wouldn't matter unless he was really dead.

And if he was, who stood in front of him really?
