Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The wind howled through the cragged expanse of the new valley, carrying the scent of distant life—settlements, perhaps, or wandering souls foolish enough to linger near his domain. Sinister moved with quiet purpose, his cloak of shadow billowing behind. At his side, @Malachi walked in measured stride, ever watchful.

Jaggedspine was his. That much was certain. But certainty did not mean safety. Others lurked beyond its borders, and it was time to decide if they would heed their presence, or be buried beneath the stone.

The terrain here was different—less hostile, but no less wild. He could see signs of passage: disturbed earth, the faint traces of its inhabitants carried on the wind. He did not believe in coincidence. Where there were others, there was conflict waiting to be shaped to his will.

His gaze flickered to Malachi, unreadable. “We are not the only ones staking claim in this land,” he murmured, his voice smooth but edged with an eerie edge. “Let us see who else dares believe they belong.”

With that, he pressed forward, the weight of his presence bleeding into the land, a silent warning that jaggedspine had found its master—and soon, the those nearby would know it too.

This moment meant everything.

They would make their presence known, their reasons echoing through the valley. Malachi trusted Sin beside him, offering loyalty in return. He wouldn’t have chosen to face this predicament with anyone else, being able to take in this moment with Sin was worth looking forward to.

This was home. And it would stay that way. Anyone who dared to threaten it would be dealt with accordingly as Malachi was not a man who enjoyed sharing. The wind shifted, ruffling the ember-colored hairs along his back, as his equally fiery gaze scanned the vast expanse before him. Here, there was life. There were resources. It was a good place to settle, to make a home. How long had it been since he’d been able to say that? “I will not tolerate a threat to my livelihood,” Malachi said, his voice calm but carrying a subtle edge.

Patience and tolerance were not his virtues. He walked beside Sin, the plush grass parting with each step. There was nothing more to say, so he simply watched, waiting to see what would unfold.

callahan had begun to work on settin' up the borders of their home in preparation for their settlin'. he weren't sure leavin' the young girl alone was a good idea, but he trusted miss bunny to help make her comfortable with them should she decide to stick 'round. cal knew he'd feel better if she did, but weren't his choice to make.

as the man made his way down into the meadow, a pair of unfamiliar scents made him pause. they weren't the pair cal'd recently welcomed to the camp, nor were it miss bunny and miss lemon. so it meant one thing—trespassers. now, callahan knew it weren't his territory yet, but he had already begun to lay his claim here. his scent permeated the air, the wildness of it almost matching that of the wilderness. with a huff, the outlaw began to trail the strangers like a dog hot on a trail.

“you've gotta lot of nerve trespassin' in my home.” he spoke firmly, eyes glinting like the sharp edge of a blade. callahan was never this territorial, but somethin' about the pair had him on edge. if anything, the taller one acted like Levi did in his final days—arrogant and stupid. who'd he think he was, waltzin' in his home like he were a king. he barely glanced at the man who followed at his side, knowin' he'd do anythin' to protect his home and family from them.

cal stood tall, not at all phased by their presence. he were a bad man, now and in the past, and fellers like this never did bother him much. they just needed to learn their place and keep out of his way, same way he would. never allies, but as levi would say, neighbors with mutual respect.
