Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

In faraway dreamscapes, the wind went slicing through his furs as they chased a great, decorated beast. Less concerned with finer details, the dark Ostrega ran on brutally intent, and in company that he could not quite name--but as he saw them streaking along in his periphery, he felt an earnest peace. Unified beneath the moment's banner, the pack animal relished in the strength this coursed through his blood, and surged forward onto the hunt.

And in a instant, something else shifted. The woods around him grew darker, their grip closing in around him. Even the air seemed to thicken, spiking up his worries. The dappled moonlight only grew more scarce as seconds ticked by with him still glued on his chosen course. Determined, his muscles burned, and an echo of a distant howl went up, already in the direction he was pointed. He chose to take that as an assurance, but could not answer.

But a flash from nearby startled him, his stride faltering, escalating quickly. As forever remained a prevailing thought: keep going.. they will be waiting for you...

Something clicked back into place, and in the very next pulse, he blinked into a peaceful present. The first breath was awfully heavy, but the next came easier. A soothing familiarity could finally follow, though it hardly gave him any answers.

Antares was near the springs, deep in the thick of the warm mists. Evidently, he had been here a while; condensation weighed down his furs, his mouth was dry, muscles loosened... But, he didn't exactly remember coming here in the first place. It was not that unusual for him, but generally, he thought he did so with a more conscious thought.

Despite this, through it all thrummed something more. A sharp, alarming clarity that said something had changed. What, exactly, he didn't know. He buzzed behind his ears, a look of careful concentration on his face as he tried to piece this together. There were things he simply sensed better than he knew how to explain...

A great weight had been lifted.

On what almost seemed like new legs, the samurai gathered himself up and set out, nose low to hopefully find other denizens of Shiroshika--not yet knowing that there was nothing left to find.
