"Black-blood flowing over ice."
WHAT IS IT? A nomadic group of characters who enter the game together. Maybe they knew one-another in their previous life, maybe they have just met and see the value of sticking together. They migrate as needed, defend one-another, and test the mettle of existing packs.
INSPIRED BY the iron-age Scythians, Thracians, Mesopotamia. Uses Inupiaq/Yupik language for now because that's what Naga knows.
NIAKUK “ skull ” Leadership
Kavrak - Lead Male ("crown of head")Sinnauktuk - Second ("dreamer")
KUYIPIKKAT “ spine ” Core
Patikigun - Experienced hunters, warriors, raiders. ("marrow-tooth")Ikik - Unlimited, core members. ("vertebra")
Sayaychuk - Lowest in the pecking order, but still considered part of the core. ("weak one / omega")
AKIAGUK “ stomach ” Charity
Kuluularuk - those who cannot hunt for themselves. ("stomach growls")Iliapak - stray children, if applicable. ("orphan")
I was thinking about throwing Naga randomly at the map, but I think it'd be more fun to have him already "awake" and traveling with these guys! Let me know if you are interested in making a travel buddy, you can do whatever you want with them. It's nice to start with connections. :)
ADOPTABLES? If someone needs help with a character design, do reach out! I love to design characters (more than I enjoy actually roleplaying them TBH).
Karina Ímikêrak — Naga's birth mother, who died during his birth. She would have arrived in Canis (or somewhere like it) before Naga and could have established herself, built a new life, etc. Her people are called Arctic Highlanders. Their culture does not include a divine ruler, paternal or maternal deities, or anything close to heaven/hell in the afterlife. They do believe that the moon punishes individuals for the breaking of social taboos. They believe a tupilaq, an avenging monster, can be summoned using offal, bone, and sinew or other such components, and it is done by angakkuk, their shamans. The sky (sila) is full of spirits (anirnitt), which might seek revenge unless pacified by ritual. Akna, a fertility goddess, Anguta, a death goddess who gathers those lost and takes them to the underworld (called the everdark, a place beneath the sea [*this part I made up myself & it ties-in with other families I play...]). More can be found here.
Other Adoptables: design 1 | design 2 | design 3 | ...
Anarsaraq Nunasurriq ("sea anemone") - the Nunasuriq are a family of seal hunters. This character was on their first seal hunt, a rite to prove themselves a man, when they failed.
Mikituaq Quatkemiut ("little white whale") - the Quatemiut were known for hunting whales originally, then they became scavengers as the ice receded. This character starved to death.
Tevirkaryuk Angutulag ("a vanishing storm") - the Angutulag people lived in the wildernesses of Tartok's control and were known warriors, and rumor spread of cannibalism. Valk!
Tupannguaq Akitarr'i ("sweet, wild thyme") - this character is focused on moon worship, listening to the spirits within the wind, and keeping the peace. Van!
Qirakari ("wants to warm themselves in the sun") - A child with very few memories of hard times, who doesn't enjoy the hunt but is afraid to leave.
