Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

It was easy to lose time in the Terrace. Narcissa ventured out, and in, drifting amongst the blossoms and succulents without a care in the world. Scents of packs were brought in with the light winds but the nymph remained unflapped. She did not mind if she returned home, she did not mind if in the end, she was to spend the rest of her years being taken to different worlds. In this one, at least, she could venture where she pleased. Though being a captive hadn't done much to Narcissa, the only thing that had come close was the way she hadn't been able to explore.

She had been kept holed up in a dirt den, the world moving on by without her. From the time she had been able to, Narcissa had roamed. She roamed far and wide, always returning home in the end, but she was a woman who had always adventured. It had frightened her parents, especially when she had come home with the gaping wound on her shoulder after He had taken a taste, now pink and puckered scarring in its place, but even then they had known they could not keep her caged.

It was an injustice.

A shallow cut lay upon a golden cheek though Narcissa paid it no heed, instead focusing on rummaging through the bottom of the succulent for the stone she had stored. Pulling it out with her teeth, the nymph pulled away and made for the bottom terrace where the gentle hum of the waterfall called her Home. A multitude of lily pads lay silent upon the serene lake's surface, blossom so lovely that Narcissa couldn't help but sigh on the approach.

It was a habit, as of late. Finding these pretty stones and after a few days, depositing them into the lake. For why, she could not say, only that it felt right. Leaning down to the gentle water, she let the stone drop from her mouth at the same time a crimson droplet rolled from her cheek. Spreading across the ripples was a tinge of red, and Narcissa peered at it quietly as she watched the stone submerge to make its way to the bottom of the lake.

Perhaps one day she might be known as the Lady of the Lake. Her lips twitched in delight, leaning back as she let the sunshine warm her spine.

if you'd asked him how he got here, cole wouldn't be able to tell you. one minute he was with his unit sweeping a building for insurgents. the following, he was by a pond. the soft trickling of the falls and distant birdsong felt, odd. serene. everything his past life wasn't. he was a dog of war, a man who couldn't ignore the call of duty no matter how much his momma cried for him to stay. and now, he was in a haven he wasn't deserving of. this beauty was untainted, and yet here he was. blood stained his hands, his soul. everything was covered in the blood of innocents, and no amount of scrubbing would change that.

cole finally woke from the darkness that crept through his mind, the hushed whispering driving him to thoughts he no longer wished to have. with a shake of his head, the man began to walk along the pond's edge, ears perked for signs of life. the green life that colored the area made him uncomfortable, further proving he was not meant to be in a place like this. at least until a familiar scent made him pause. blood.

the sharp metallic bite pulled him from the shores of the pool, attracting him like a shark after wounded prey. seeing a small figure near the water's edge, his nose picking up on her saccharine scent and the metal he was trailing. “you alright?” he rumbled as he looked down at the petite blonde. his eyes followed the drop of blood that rolled from the wound on her cheek, wanting nothing more than to see her blonde fur stained red. to see this beauty just as stained as he was.
