"If dreams can't come true, then why not pretend?"

"Led through the mist
By the milk light of moon
All that was lost is revealed
Our long bygone burdens
Mere echoes of the spring
But where have we come?
And where shall we end?
If dreams can't come true
Then why not pretend?

How the gentle wind
Beckons through the leaves
As Autumn colors fall
Dancing in a swirl
Of golden memories
The loveliest lies of all"

Appearance

With a height of only 26 inches, Adelaide certainly doesn't seem like a force to be reckoned with. She has a well-kept, sand-coloured coat, with a slightly darker tan underbelly, paws and ears. her face is kind and plump (like the rest of her), though her fluffy pelt contributes to her over indulged appearance. Her eyes are her most striking feature. Though as gentle and soft as the rest of her, they are a fathomless deep golden color. One could lose themself staring into her soul. She doesn't consider herself to be attractive, but only because she doesn't understand the notion. Most would overlook her, but she has a certain complex beauty about her that one can only really find in the details.

Personality

In her life before Canis, Adelaide was a healer. As a result of this, she now has an innate connection to plants and other wolves. Though she doesn't understand everything about herself, she knows that her cause is to mend the broken and ill.

Though only a young adult, Addi has wisdom far beyond her years. She is inquisitive, and acutely aware of the emotions of the wolves around her. Despite this, however, she is extremely naive and easy to deceive because she believes so strongly that those around her share her own moral code: that they have her best interests at heart as she does for them. Her stubbornness unfortunately fuels her rose-tinted view of the world. Her childlike wonder, however, is one of her most endearing traits. It is near impossible to be gloomy around the young lass; she simply radiates positivity and kindness, and has an almost maternal air towards those in her care. Her desire to help those around her can sometimes lead to their annoyance at her persistence, because she is so doggedly determined to help all she can. The version of herself she exudes is her most authentic, unguarded self always. She was never taught to hide her emotions from others, or to put walls up to guard herself, and can therefore come across as weak, but it is also incredibly disarming to others who may be unused to someone so kind. It catches them off guard.

She treats everyone with the dignity, warmth and tenderness of one who has been through a great burden and wants to ease the suffering for others. Though Adelaide cannot remember anything about who she once was, other than her name. She obeys a strict moral code: that everyone and every creature possesses light in their heart of hearts, and that they should be treated as such. She goes so far as to thank her prey in their last moments.

History

Adelaide was born into a pack that valued each other's happiness and their relationship with nature above all else. They believed their gods watched over them with a kind eye so long as they treated each other and the world around them with respect. She was born on a brisk spring morning alongside two other siblings, both boys. The runt of the litter, and in some ways the runt of her pack, the little wolf was never bold or strong, but it just meant her family cared for her even more fiercely. She wasn't a part of a royal line, per se, but her homeland's pack structure was that of an extended family. They were all related, either by blood or marriage (the eldest family members were generally referred to in order to resolve disputes), and younger members struck out on their own when they wished to start a family only to return with their new beloved, who the pack always welcomed with open arms. She was interested in herbs from a young age and soon found herself engrossed in the world of medicine, learning everything she could from her mother before she passed away at the ripe age of 11 and a half. She lived a quiet, selfless life, travelling to practise her healing in all the packs that her own was allied with. Little did she know how much her life was to change.

The she-wolf left on foggy morning to help deliver a litter and returned a day later to find that a raging wildfire swept through the forest in the night, charring the earth to a crisp. Her pack believed that their gods had turned on them for sins committed in the darkness, and they began to turn on eachother. In-fighting replaced play, newcomers were looked on with a viciously scrutinous eye, and were often turned away. She grew less and less happy there, and her trips away grew longer. Her father and brothers died, and she later found out that her father attacked one of them. The other came to his defense and all three succumbed to their bleeding before a messenger could reach Adelaide. She felt like a coward, and that it was her fault the remainder of her family had perished.

Her pack believed so too, and after that incident she wasn't allowed to leave their territory again. Wolves in other packs suffered and died because of it, and their alliships became strained in the coming months. Little did her pack know, Adelaide had found a mate in one of those packs, but was now severed from him. She pleaded to leave just once; even if she couldn't see him she just wanted to save another life who wasn't at death's doorstep because of actions her own family had taken. One night in the dead of winter, a patrol dragged in an outsider that they had caught within the border. Adelaide's heart dropped to her toes when she saw her mate through the many legs of her angry denmates. Their punishment proved just how far they had strayed from the peaceful people they once were.

Her story in Canis began in an arid desert devoid of life, or so she thought. Her memory had vanished except for a few things she understood as though they were instinctual. She wandered aimlessly for a time before collapsing in the feeble shade of a rock, far from her old happy home. It was as if she had fallen from heaven to hell in an instant with no explanation.
