After wandering from the station of her last pack, the eventual mother was waylaid in the mountains with another scout during a terrible blizzard, and when the timing said so, their litter was created. But, he would never know; Jomyo would promptly take them miles away to be born in her distant homelands, her predetermined destination.

When she arrived, she found her once-thought-lost sister having returned well before her, and taken to a mantle on the mountain--paired to the last Rikudou heir, no less. Needing further fortification in blood during what were considered times of peace there, Jomyo's litter would not be born in her birthplace, the ancient forests at its base but instead they would have the right of the mountain alongside their aunt's litter. Four pups were born, Asvini among them as the smallest of the small and considered quite peculiar. But, they all survived their earliest days.

Early in their youth, Jomyo--never all that interested in motherhood--was lured off to new duty: a covert operation on enemy grounds she was uniquely familiar with. She took her smallest whelp and joined Marque d’Os (related to Skullsmarke) under the pretense of a struggling wandering mother, leaving the rest of her litter to be raised and trained by their aunt and uncle in the comforts of Mount Rikudou’s protection.

Asvini Rikudou was then called Mitra Eizokusei, and given the ambiguity, was recognized and raised as a runt of a young male. In the interest of his safety, and to help further distance their identity, Jomyo encouraged this readily. She kept her son close while duty pressed her to dangerous edges, in the efforts of potential gain for the forests, she was relentless–and swiftly, she had her brother Ikkyu’s attention. Then, not long after the siblings’ initial communication, Jomyo was injured in a mission and couldn't rebound. She then died a few long days later with her young son at her side.

And so, Mitra grew up hard, and fast in the low rungs of the pack that already festered, tumultuous at best in those times. Unknowingly his uncle Ikkyu stepped in to help raise him then, offering a watchful eye and a place that was not his mother's deathbed to stay. Most of all, he soon taught him to fight, which he took to preternaturally, and helped continue what Jomyo had begun–sharpening a strong survivalist in a harsh, ugly world.

But Ikkyu would disappear from the juvenile’s life suddenly one day. He wandered lost on the fringes and buffer zones until he found two other orphans to regroup with, and bonded swiftly. Now relying on their small troupe, they slowly started to gain strength enough to survive and persist in the cruel, low rungs of packlives. Eventually they were noticed by the right sorts, and skills put to work where there were always families or packs warring somewhere. It helped secure a niche for them, and catered to the strengths they found they had–speed, stealth, and knowing all the right paths in the dark woods and beyond. It made even small, fine-boned Mitra a weapon, unafraid of the dirty work so long as he had a clean bed of his own at the end of the day. This brought him increasing confidence, and eventually, the rights to bigger jobs with more risk, but more reward. With it, he was able to help keep Petal safe from her own complicated histories, and grow closer to Finch in the days moving forward.

*before birth, he was a masculinization of a female fetus, likely from an ovarian-origin tumor and exacerbated by his small size. once born, true sex was always somewhat doubted so loosely termed since family didn't care yet. has typical female karyotype (XX) but vague enough features of both sexes externally--though outwardly, it does all lean towards female structures. essentially, upbringing dictated he embrace and enforce his more masculine appearances for all its worth despite uhhh not exactly having any external testicles to truly prove it. he smells fairly masculine, though, and would rather you not look that close anyway ):<
