[beware, WIP]Like all the sisters before him, he was
born the night of a full moon on the mountain claimed by his parents, Moonspear. He was the first son to the proud clan, and arrived alongside three more sisters. Jarilo was smallest in his earliest days, catching concern from his pragmatic mother specifically, but even in this, he was overshadowed by the misfortune of the girls: one was lacking developmentally so significantly in the first weeks that their parents
removed her, and once the litter was old enough to move towards the rendezvous, another sister
fell down a mountain crevice.
This left Vela, his remaining littermate who took very much after her father, and Jarilo, who idolised his mother’s attentions, to grow up in the respective tutelage of their parents. Each gravitated naturally into this focus, raised and trained with the tough, proud care the mountain-dwellers provided.
By the time his parents bore their third litter, Jarilo was armed to step more seriously into the role of a guardian of the mountain. His training continued, and expanded, into the reaches of his older sisters and various trusted packmates—easy resources for the young Ostregas, as the residents of the Spear often remained closely-knit and related through much of their upbringing.
On into his first year and beyond, his worldview expanded from the focal point of their lofty claim. Jarilo found a new level of introspection
from his father, and it motivated him to train more seriously with his mother–who allowed more depth of him, finally, broadening his horizons as a naturalist and guardian of the mountain alike. Also during this time, Vela made the choice to leave their homeland to range. While he attempted to bloom despite this considerable hit, even worse than that: his parents began to clash not long after.
Chiefly motivated by his mother’s lack of receptiveness to his father so far that spring, and spurred by Charon’s greediness met with Amekaze’s staunchly unwavering fury, their quarrels escalated quickly. Lines were drawn between the family members, rifts following. Amekaze aligning with Hydra best, while Charon sought to appeal to his sons. Jarilo tried to remain neutral, torn, and from his mother, his older sister was
granted permission to breed on in her place, further igniting the speckled patriarch.
Chaos for Moonspear’s family festered further when Charon
promoted youngest son Revui to beta over his littermate brother Arcturus, they began to grow unsettled and jealous, but Revui was not long for the role. Comparatively cool-tempered Jarilo, once more, stayed out of this as his father’s misdeeds continued.
Charon tells Arcturus he mated Speedy, which seals his fate.
Jarilo helps his sisters chase out the pregnant Speedy, officially aligning with his mother.
Hydra promoted,
Amekaze finally attacks Charon with intent. The mountain finishes it and they orphan everyone.
Jarilo absolutely does not cope with these losses, but Hydra and Dirge’s puppies arrive.
Earthquakes begin, then a region-wide famine results. Local tensions rise but Moonspear stays strong and gains allies.
A foreign Kukutux joins the pack from one such ally across the valley.
Osiris is attacked, with ties to old foes that lead them all into spring, where he begins to grow closer to Kukutux, willing enough to be the husband she seeks on the Spear.
His brothers make strife--Revui from beyond, Arcturus from closer to the heart. Matters escalate, as Ostregas tend to do. Arcturus leaves, and Jarilo rises to beta in their absence.
After, the first Kukurilo litter is born in the spring--a pair in which the daughter takes after her mother, and son his father. Though nervous of the newness, and their mother's deep culture, Jarilo enjoys fatherhood.
The pack grows strong, and vast. Hydra's eldest branch into an extension founded in their hunting grounds of Firefly Glen.
Things are very good on the mountain until suddenly they are very not--first a bear wipes out his nephew and several important packmembers, then another nephew goes missing, spiraling Hydra further into grief.
Close to winter's end, Moonspear is
struck by a meteor, and Jarilo loses all recollection there to then awaken on a new peak, unsure of the purpose.
Then, they regroup, slowly but surely into Empyrean. He reunites with many, although not all. With his son Saviguk, he forges ahead in this new life. Jarilo maintains his stance as Hydra and Dirge's loyal second.
