Antagonist For Your Story! Laska the Thief, Laska the Raider

Laska is a brigand, and a thief, and a loser! In fact, she’s designed to play a losing part in the stories of others. She can be an antagonist, a problem to be solved by your characters, and as her writer I’m perfectly happy for this miserable creature to be defeated in battle and chased off. For players and packs looking to get some fighting ability, or defend their territory from an intruder who isn’t too powerful, I think Laska can fit the bill. She’ll fight, but she won’t win, and she’ll bail before she dies. I’m not ready for her to meet her end just yet, so only stories that would allow her to limp way in the end should be written… for now.

In any case, Laska can fight, but she's not good at it. She can run, but she's not the fastest, except when she's fleeing for her life. She's tough, but far from the toughest, and she'll lose an endurance competition with wolves who focus and train their own constitutions. Probably the best thing Laska can do is find a hidden hole somewhere and heal up from her failures, before she goes back out into the world and raids or steals or ambushes once again.

Appearance

This gray-and-white-furred wolf is not terribly muscular, or large. She slinks and dashes and hides, all in pursuit of the quickest gain for the least amount of spent energy. Her fur is dirty from travel, her skin carries scars or even dried-out wounds from a recent battle. None of her scars are impressive or striking; they're just marks, showing that she's fought and lost many times.

Personality

Laska is a coward, driven by fear as well as a desire to survive… But primarily by fear. In fact, it is the horror tied to the thought of dying that drives her to keep on going. Laska survives by any means necessary; she steals kills and raids food stashes, ambushes innocent creatures who are alone or sick or unwary, and she is an honorless scoundrel who is never too proud to flee.

History

Laska was endured puppyhood in a cold and brutal den, with a litter far too large and with a mother far too uncaring. Laska and her siblings fought ugly battles for food and dominance, and of the ten pups who were born, only five survived to adulthood. She fled the den as soon as she was able to hunt enough to live by, and immediately found herself in a constant battle against her own hunger, and against the dangers of the world. For Laska, every calorie counts, and she takes each and every chance she can to make an easy meal, which leads to her thievery and raiding tactics.

Laska’s attempts to socialize and join packs are sabotaged by her own thieving and selfish behaviors. When she’s ostracized, justifiably, she rejects any notion that the fault is hers, and instead blames the world and the selfishness of others. Demonizing other wolves only makes it easier for her to vindicate her own banditry and violence. Laska has created for herself a cycle of fear, harm and hunger.
