Born Malachi Singing-St. Clair, he was fated to not have a particularly normal and warm family almost from the start. The conception of himself and his sisters probably in retrospect was a horrible idea. Queenie eventually disappeared not long after they were weaned, but not before possibly causing lasting damage to at least one of his sisters by trying to wean them far too early. Her leaving aligned with the appearance of Olive and Seabreeze and their children, who Delight at first attempted to get them to coexist with before that became an obviously bad idea. Mali took their sudden existence as a threat, especially with his mom going missing.

Time passed, and the appearance of some cats made Olive and Seabreeze decide to move the pack elsewhere -- which aligned with Queenie's brief reappearance and then the vanishing of both of his sisters. Queenie and Delight went off to search for them, leaving Mali alone, dragged away from his home while his entire family was gone and nobody seemed to care. After they arrived in Hushed Willows, Delight eventually reappeared, as did Brilliance, but things weren't the same, as after this, he hardly saw his father despite being in the same pack.

Mali and Brilliance lived on the social edges, obviously not wanted by the tightly-knit pack that seemed keen on pretending the pair didn't exist. He got more and more unruly, especially as Solomon seemed to have been utterly forgotten by the entire pack. He eventually started exploring and trying to find something resembling hope in the world outside the willows. Delight's eventual mateship to Olive and Seabreeze -- the two wolves in the pack that he hated the absolute most for the way they'd seemingly destroyed his and Brilliance's lives -- was the final straw and he set out on his own to find somewhere else where he and his sister could live a happy life, metaphorically burning any other connections to his family that he could think of aside from her.

His trip away was quite eventful -- wolves that tried to convince him to go with them then attacked each other, others that claimed another stranger was a murderer and wanted his help killing them, other things... He came back after a month to check on Brillo only to find her gone -- he had no reason to go back after.

It took eight months to found Neverwinter Forest with the band of misfits he had collected. His closest friend became Simmik -- filling a role that was somewhere between sister and ward. Also of note was the brief presence of Ceilidh who was the first to tell Mal that he was worth something, that it was no fault of his. During the founding time the founding pack was trespassed against multiple times due to famine, including by the not-quite-nearby pack of Moonspear, who seemed to travel in large gangs far from their territory, and later a trio of murderers who barged into the territory and (to Mal's perspective) tried to use his pack as cover, to which he spoiled their ability to hide. But eventually, the pack had enough members to hold strong, and so it did.

And though he acted rather like a child at times, fathering four litters of pups, only one of which was planned and understood by all parties involved. However, Mal loved all his children and all he'd wanted was for them all to be happy together. Yeah, didn't work out. It was just chaos from then on.
For a brief time Mal found out he had a brother, but Mattie died soon after. A pack called the Saints started to cause trouble. One of his children was attacked. Another disappeared. Simmik was attacked. Cupid disappeared, and on the search for him, he ran into the saints and later found the attacker of both Simmik and <daughter>. Cupid died from a wasp attack. He became mates with <someone>, though told noone. Simmik was kidnapped, but a Moonspear wolf told him to wait before acting -- he never heard back. Again he searched for <son> and Simmik and came home to two other sons missing. Simmik returned for a brief visit, only to say her kidnapper was now her mate, that all the bad things he'd done were pointless, and she wasn't coming back.

With that, he took what remained of his family to Yuelong, for that was where Hua, another mother of his children, lived. Mal had hoped that <someone>, Hua, and himself could form a trio, but that wasn't to be. His remaining friend from the early days of Neverwinter, Cam, died, and as a broken man, he found <someone> had disappeared soon after.
