His decision to stay was more-or-less final. Open ended, with the possibility that if the circumstances call for it, he will surely leave but, for now at least, he was staying. No more back and forth trips for the time being. Erebus ignored the pull he felt, towards the moon pool and the ripperwood. Such eerily holy places called and beckoned at him but, it was little enough that the prince felt it not much trouble to simply turn away. All the wolves had seemingly disappeared anyway, strangely enough.

He blamed it on the moon.

She was mysterious and had odd ways of going about how she conducted her people. All in an effort to teach them something important, he guessed. Or maybe she just liked toying with them. Erebus couldn't tell which it was, now.

Regardless, den making was a fun activity. There seemed to be a particular area where dens were commonly dug out, near a freezing river. It was bright sapphire blue and his reflection stared back at him clear as day when he peered over to look at it. The trickle of water made the man calm. It would be a nice area to make a home, if he was any good at deciding on a good place.
Orange eyes scanned around, looking for well-placed rocks or trees, whatever not, for a spot to start digging. His face full of an unsure expression.

The Witch could smell the more frequent scent of Erebus.
It seemed for now he was deciding to stay...
Eldritch huffed to herself as she padded through the woods, eventually coming across the man himself.
He appeared to be attempting to dig out a den...

With a neutral and absent expression, she would sigh under her breath and approach.
She said nothing yet, instead picking her way towards him until she stood somewhere to his side.
Her own den was already picked out and had been since they laid claim: the cavern in the hillside with the weeping willow's branches draped over the entrance like a curtain.
The Augur hmmed softly and would speak after a time "There is a small rise upstream I have passed a few times. There is a tree there. Underneath it on the side that faces the river, the roots dangle and make some sort of cover for the dirt below. I believe it will be soft enough to dig further into." She mused in her absent way.
Their last interaction was rocky at best, though it had been her own doing; The Spiderling would make do with the situation at hand though, which is Erebus' seemingly permanent residence.

She would read her bones on it later.

The silken pitch woman approached as silently as a shadow, he looked at her curiously once he realized she was there. After a moment she spoke, and the raven looked surprised. She was quite the intuitive creature, it appeared. The man could actually learn to like her if she would continue on this way! A subtle smile grew on his maw.

"Hm, I shall give it a look, then." He huffed, taking a few steps forward before stopping and turning back to the seer. "Why this helpful air about you today?" Erebus hadn't taken her for a woman who would give half a shit about helping another, especially him, who she was so very suspicious of before. Yet here she was helping him out, it was a curious change of heart. Not that he cared much if her heart changed at all but, it was interesting.

She twitched an ear slightly as he said he'd give it a look.
She was partial to just allowing him to go on his own, but after mulling it over just as he asked about her helpful nature today, she decided she'd stick around for a bit.

Softly the Witch would answer, whilst padding past him "It is my job, to help others."
She wouldn't give the rest of that information for free - the admittance of what she assumed to be a death at her own paws, when she shoved Rosencrantz from the cliffs some moons ago, or so it felt at least.

Better for now to be underestimated than for him to assume she was a real threat.
Eldritch continued on, intending to find the area she had spoken of.
Her pale gaze flicked to Erebus to see if he was coming with.

He stifled a snort of a laugh. What a strange creature this woman was, he quite enjoyed it.

As she made headway towards the den site, the shadow followed after her. "To help me though?? ehhh.." He shrugged his shoulders slightly. "I'm not so sure." He hinted towards their last interaction. They weren't hostile before, at least but, Eldritch was rightfully suspicious of him. All of an effort to keep his Queen safe, so he respected her for it. Though he wanted to know what exactly changed her heart.

Erebus smirked at her teasingly. "I'm glad you are protective of Sorina." Face shifting gently, a bit more serious and honest. It was true, a woman of her caliber needs plenty of friends and guardians to keep her safe. Only one wolf can do so much when facing the world. Being alone in her position, as Queen in the North, was not ideal.

Eldritch said nothing to his first words in response to her.
She knew what he was eluding to, but for now she paid it no mind.

His more honest attempt at conversation would garner a response, however.
"She was the first wolf to welcome me here, and I have been by her side since." She uttered for him, watching the trees ahead for the one she spoke of.

He cooed under thick dark fur and basin-like chest. Sorina had been the same for him. A beacon of hope, a dark angel when the world was most confusing. Their night was passionate, it made his skin hot with remembrance. Trying not to get too wrapped up in the memory of it all, Erebus shook his head softly and continued on.

"She is a lovely creature." She wasn't even here and yet the man flirted with the mere thought of her. Such a love struck himbo, he was being. "I see why she has let you so close to her. You're loyal, and a picture of the goddess' intended beauty, yourself." An attempt at a compliment. Eldritch was a distant and quiet creature, the raven thought that flattery would help ease her nerves with him. He was genuinely curious about her, as surprising as that may seem.

Eldritch smiled softly as Erebus complimented Sorina.
He seemed smitten with her, that much the Witch could picture just fine.
He then delivered a compliment to her.
The Augur chuckled softly and shook her head just as light, "I believe in different Deities than you, it seems."
Her smile held, however, for it was not meant as a dismissal of his attempt.
She paused as she saw the tree she had spoken of up ahead, standing tall and almost proud-looking even as many of the large roots gnarled and snaked from a sharp drop on the river side of the small hill it sat upon.

Trotting up to it, the spiderling looked back to Erebus "This is the tree I speak of."

"Ah yes! I sometimes forget you wolves of this strange land aren't typically familiar with her love and grace." The man spoke in further reference to his goddess. A being which he spoke about almost in the same loving air as he had with Sorina. "She loves us so dearly, us dark creatures of ash and shadow." And though Eldritch clearly expressed believing differently, Erebus had not paid too much mind. Thinking any following of other faith as simply a lapse of judgement or bout of ignorance rather than a difference in culture. "We are her favorite children." He leaned in slightly with a bit of a biting whisper at his last words.

They approached the den-site the Augur had spoken of, indicated by her words and point of her nose. He looked at it with curious eyes. He liked the way it overlooked much of the land and especially the river, it's gnarled tree branches creating a buffer from the wind. While there was much to dig out still, it definitely will have much potential.
"This certainly will do!" He barked as he stepped up to it, sniffing around and planning in his head what it would look like. "Thank you." The raven finally said, looking back at Eldritch with a smile.

"The Moon, where I hail from, is named Mani. He is chased by the Monster, Hati, as is Sol, his sisterthe Sun, by the Monster Skoll. Mani and Sol are destined to be swallowed by their respective monsters upon Ragnarök - the end of the world." She told Erebus.
With genuine curiosity, she would question his own faith - "Why would your moon love anyone else differently than those of dark fur? After all, when you see her in the sky, she herself is pale most of the time, yes?"
The Witch raised a brow with a gentle smile, catching on to his racism.
Though of course, she was much more diplomatic than her blood-sister and wouldn't result to fang and fight nearly as easily as Nyra did.

He listened carefully to the strange religion of her origin. It sounded like absurd ramblings of near-insanity but, he was willing to listen at the very least. He thought it interesting simply on the merit of how different it was from his.

The raven's ears perked at her question. Nobody had ever asked before but, not out of fear or doubt but, because the answer seemed so simple. His brows furrowed as he looked away, thinking best how to answer the question. After a moment's thought of crafting his response, his maw parted for a few words. "The sun is scornful and burns the color out of the most beautiful of things. The moon is graceful and kind, she shields us from the burning sun at night so that we may rest and preserve our color from being sun-bleached. On the most special of days, she changes her colors to inspire us for different purposes. Sometimes, she even comes during the middle of the day to block the sun's view. She's a guardian and a protector." The man spoke of the goddess lovingly, the same tone in his voice that he would use when speaking of Sorina. Swooned and cooing, full of love and respect.

"White wolves have not only been removed of their color but, their soul as well. They're cruel and thoughtless, with only the most evil intentions in mind. A white wolf cannot change their color." He finalized his thoughts, the tone shifting back to it's more proper one. His voice falling back to one full of ego and contempt. Typical for the raven.

While white was the absence of color, black was the culmination of it all. This was the law of his people. To be absent of color was to absent of soul and mind, to feel no feelings or respect no other. Erebus could only think of the story of the white wolves on the mountain in the time before he was born. How his great-grandfather led the clans to take back the mountain and free their people from slavery and abuse. The black wolves finally gave them color when they cut them open to reveal the red inside.

She listened to his response, already forming one of her own by the time he finished speaking.
His racism was clear by now, but Eldritch felt his was a matter of upbringing rather than ill intent, for the moment.

"But the Sun also gives life. She is cruel in ways yes - but so is every other part of what makes up our world- Midgard. The same rain that falls gently one day can also destroy trees on another. The same fire that burns down a forest also blazes a path for new life to grow in place of the old." She responded, continuing after a brief pause "We all have a place in the cycle of life. The white wolves you so hate bleed as red as you, no? And just as my body, your body, even their bodies, will eventually die, we will all feed and nourish Midgard's soils in some manner. We eat our prey, our prey eats something else, fed by something else, on and on, but it all comes back to that we are all connected, even to the ones we hate." She said these words in the same calmness as she had every word before, and would further her point by adding:
"I do not know the history of your spirituality, but entertain the idea for a moment, that perhaps it is not as justified as you believe it to be, for not everything is as it seems." She raised a brow as she finished her sentence, her emotions neutral and her tone still light, calm.
Given his contempt and strength in his beliefs though, she leveled him with an expectant stare as if waiting for him to lash out because his belief was challenged.

this convo is so juicy for vis points ty

The raven couldn't help but look a her with a concerned gaze and tempered brows. Though he couldn't hate a black sheep that had been led astray, someone that had not grown with the graces and knowledge of the moon. How unfortunate of a life it was, Erebus actually felt bad for her more than he felt angry.
He shook his head.
"Black wolves decay but, we do not die." He smiled at the thought.
"When we part from this world, we go up to the sky and help the moon block the sun. What you call stars are just the tiny gaps in between each of her fallen children." A white pelted wolf did not have this same fate. They could not block the sun. When they die they simply cease to exist, as if they had never happened at all.

It was clear he was stubborn but, enjoyed the conversation, nonetheless. He went through it with smiles and a prideful chest. The shadow did not mind sharing, especially with someone who was willing to listen.

She spoke further and while he listened, a troubled look came upon the prince's face. She does now know of their crimes. All this time here and he hadn't been garnered the opportunity to share such history to the blind.
"White wolves enslaved, abused, and murdered our people. All because of our pelt. It is in their nature to be cruel and empty." Everything he said was in a clear and matter-of-fact tone. As if these were simply indisputable facts. Though, to him, they truly were.
"Black wolves freed us from such a life. They punished the evil and destroyed injustice. We are capable of evil, sure, but we are also capable of much good. White wolves are not. It is what separates us." Every word he spoke made him recall the time it was said to him. Sure, he had questioned it all once. One would be foolish to simply follow without answers.

His father made a point to let him ask and now, as the words exited his own mouth, Erebus realized he did it less for him and more for the lost stray children who would question just as he did. Black wolves were smart and cunning but, if they had lived a life without knowing the stories, without seeing how it still affected the people to this day, they would need someone who was steadfast to answer their questions. Someone who had questioned it all, just as he did. And though all may not follow or understand, Erebus was more than glad to share.

"Perhaps you should ask yourself the same." He referred to her final question.
"What lies would evil say just to get good to follow along?" The man lifted a brow as he spoke with a suggestive air. Like curved walls into slaughterhouses, white wolves were known for indoctrinating their slaves into thinking that was where they were meant to be. All a perfectly crafted spiderweb that only took one black flame to rid of it.

"You miss my point." She observed, cooler in tone now, slightly, ever so slightly "Hatred breeds hatred and nothing else. Perhaps white wolves were once enslaved and abused by dark-furred wolves before they retaliated, and the cycle would only continue from there. As I said, not everything is as it looks." She mused.
He was ignorant at best, in her eyes.
But she shielded the growing impatience for him behind the veil of her calmness.
She considered for a long moment about poisoning him, but no, that wouldn't do much good.
Queen Sorina liked him, and treason was the last thing she wanted to be on the business end of, despite her unfurling dislike of the man before her.
She silently forced away the desire to be as cutthroat as her sister.
Mostly.
"Perhaps it is also in the nature of other pelt colors to be as cruel and empty as you believe only white wolves to be." She said, looking at him borderline pointedly.

He shrugged her off. It was an interesting perspective and line of thinking but, entirely theoretical and borderline false. White wolves had enslaved them for generations, since the beginning of time it had seemed. The sun must think itself so high and mighty, exposing what it feels fit and burning whatever, it pleases.
"It may be the individual nature but, other beings can change. White wolves cannot." He emphasized. They were born like that and no matter how hard the dark wolves had tried to change their ways and their hearts, it was clear they were without change. Evil through and through.

Buncha psychopaths, if you ask him.

"I appreciate your curiosity and thought process, truly." The man's tone was scholarly, hoping to remind her the nature of the conversation. He could see a shift in her, something off but, the man couldn't place exactly what it was. Perhaps she did not enjoy this conversation as he did. "But I am steadfast, I have seen the truest of evil and it comes in the form of white wolves. This was his warning to her. That no matter of convincing would change his mind on this, to save her the heartache of trying to make him see otherwise. It was a losing battle.

To him, it was only a matter of time before a white wolf exposes its true form to her. Then she would understand. He thought Rosencrantz would have already sent that message but, some walls need bigger hammers.

She took a moment to gather herself in silence and poise before she let out a slow exhale.
The Witch got his point; He was too fucking braindead to see anything past his nose and rather obvious brain damage.
But she refrained from saying anything, instead staring him down for a long, long pause.
If she couldn't change his mind, then maybe a near-death experience would factory reset the daft bastard?
She blinked slowly once, twice...
"I think you are wrong." She said in returned calmness, "But if you cannot see differently, then we are at an impasse." She commented.
There was little left to say at this moment.
She turned in slow fluidity and would start to prowl back into the depths of the trees.

The man looked slightly disappointed. Partially because of her stubbornness but, when she turned away, he felt the conversation was left dead and empty.

"I respect your mind, Eldritch." He called after her. Genuine honesty from the raven. Even if they could not agree, that much was true. She was an intelligent woman, clearly, and that was enough to garner his favor. He may not go to war for her as he would his beloved Sorina but, she was one of his own. Like family, he cared for her in some way. He cared for all dark wolves, even if they did not see why.

"Black birds of a feather." This he said much quieter and to himself but, did not mind if she heard. A saying as old as time, reflective of the way it was. All black wolves were children of the moon, even if they turned an eye from their mother.
