Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Bluewater Lake held a mysterious charm to Miriam that she could not explain. Somewhere held deep in her heart, the strange feeling of nostalgia came through and yet it felt like her soul hurt as well. She did not know this land, but the past was familiar ; where the precious incarnation had met a familiar man who was said to be a friend. The soul, yearned so, the promise to meet once more that never came to fruit again.. But she would always find her paws drawing to it, the loveliness it held and the way she always yearned to be at it's steps. Some days it was hard to pull away, but the wind, the nature — always guided her elsewhere, almost knowing she could not stay forever.

Through the mountains she scoped through, intertwining with the trees and the hawks that swarmed the sky — the moon-wolf foraged through to find the lake in the midst of it all. A garden of wonders, any would say, for the fauna and flora were always so lively. Even now where winter was here, as she noted to the falling white that came through.. It always looked still lushed and lovely. The lake presenting a glacier blue, a memorizing to any. She took a deep breath, exhaling to the wind as a frosted breath fell to the ground.

She sat by the coast, a light hum in a song to her voice.

The lake had become his solace of sorts for him, even more so since a wolf had joined him in his beliefs, and him with her on her search for her children. However, today... it was snowing, nothing that stuck as it did to the tops of the mountains or even the cold valleys below, but it clung to his outer coat, his lashes, even the wet of his nose. It turned his dark coat into something alike a sky's night. Thick as it was, too, he barely even felt the chill.

It did make him prioritize lapping from the lake... but today, when he slipped from his resting place, something pleasant reached his ears, not long before the sight of a wolf like the fine gray peaks of the mountains, fur lightly ruffled by the wind.

"Hello there," he said, tail flicking a little as he approached carefully. "I thought I heard someone out here—first wolf in a while to cross through here; nice to see a new face." After a beat, he came to a stop some feet away from her. "And once so striking, too."

Though winter was coming, some birds were always stubborn. She saw the flocking of geese swarm across the lake, flying high in the sky and others diving to settle onto the top of.. There was more birds she could see flying by in the clarity of the sky, finding it quite fascinating how much life was forming around. Even the corner of her eyes could spy rams descending for a trip.. Were they looked at her the same way? Observing how a wolf was visiting? But it was not just one anymore, now it was two. She would turn to see an older man, he was quite dark in eyes and pelt itself with a deep brown, and a height higher then her own. She smiled.

"It's quite stunning, I like to think that everyone has a renewed energy and beauty when they visit here."
