Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

somewhere middle of mountains

Miriam traversed through the forests, surrounded by mountains that she could see standing about. Idly passing through, there was no current aim as her soul seemed lost in it's wandering ; but perhaps it was just one of those days meant to relax and so. She found a flat rock nearby, and decided to take a rest upon it. Her paws dangled lightly over it as she laid down, and just as she relaxed, something was felt upon her nose. A gentle snowflake fell, and her white eyes looked to the cloudy, and gloomy sky above to see the fluttering look of snow then any rain. But as it came to the floor it soon melted ; the indication the land was still warm, but the world around was soo embracing the early winter ; or that it was already here.

Seasons came and went, and the trees were bare as she looked all around, but it seemed Miriam forgotten that snow would soon come, and she should be ready for the hard winter ahead. A first time she was without a home, easy prey or the comforts of others.. Survival to find prey or other foraging goods would now be a more difficult time, and she could give a strained smile while looking upwards.. Praying lightly, that hopefully she will be guided through these times.

She came with winter’s first flurry, and nobody had been there to see it: a low cloud touching the mountain stone, lifting to reveal a small dusting of powder, and the shadow of Caine’s smoke and fire fur curled up in the wake of the snowfall.

The girl had since worked her way down the mountain, tripping over unfamiliar ground and shivering in her still summer coat.

Caine remembered the night before in feelings more in facts. She remembered yelling, remembered dad yelling back.

She didn’t remember mountains, and she didn’t remember winter.

“Hey!” this must be a dream, she decided, even as she saw the stranger perched not that far away. Caine hurried towards her, “Hey!” she called again. Teeth clicked and chattered together, “do you know where we are?”

A yearling approached — and it made her remember that it was now her second season, and she was not one anymore. By some cultures Miriam was now a woman, but she still felt oh-so young compared to those within the Summerlands, and those within the Orchid.. Wisdom that has not been gained and stories yet to tell, it was a wonder if this life-time she would reincarnate, or finally emerge to meet the Goddess. Her mind lately was oh-so full of that, for the blood moon still remained a mystery, and what sign it was trying to tell.

"Would you care to sit with me to warm up?" she smiled as their teeth clattered and she sat on the stone floor. A welcome of a hug if they so desire, a borrowed of body heat as the lilac-wolf did not feel the same bitterness of winter just yet. Warm within her fur, as she would then answer to their question with another question, "oh, did you just wake up? It's quite a mystery, but not uncommon."

But the region was unnamed.
