Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Paws flexed as they gripped the stone and granite underneath him, occasionally crumbling away in places where his weight may be to heavy to continue. The mountain was treacherous, dangerous, and surely not stable enough at the very tip top for someone of his size. Nonetheless, Boa would continue the climb, tail flicking as delicious scents filled his nose. No, he mustn't get distracted. Boa – the keen, stoic, brave suncat he was – was determined to get to the top of the precipice, to be able to look down to the ocean where he was sure his fair maiden @Mei would swim, before he brought back the most perfect, delectable and fresh mountain goat, just for her.

As he ventured, though, thoughts began to invade his mind; some of the past, some of the now, and some of whatever his future may hold, though he'd hope that his future lay in both the heart and paws of his beloved. The climb would bring back memories of @Sabira, an ebbing queen extending an invitation to the suncat, an invitation to a kingdom yet built, of which he could both serve and find respite in. She had a prickly exterior, yes, but something about her made it clear she surely hadn't always been that way; nonetheless, he continued, pushing way the thoughts of those rippling heights and returning back to the hunt. He huffed impatiently, trying to work his way around a particularly nasty crack before his thoughts went to wander once more...

@Alexei, the nice, yet strangely quiet fisherman who'd given him advice on Mei, and had also seemed quite tentative at first glance; when they'd first interacted, Boa would've guessed that he'd been... scared of the suncat, and sure, while he definitely couldn't blame one for being weary, Alexei's fear had seemed to go to a deeper level that Boa didn't think he'd realised at first. Nonetheless, he clicked his tongue with a smile at the thought of him, back on his way through the stone mountains. Then came, though, @Harper and the child (who spilt nothing but cruelties and insults from that blasphemous maw of hers), @Violet. The two were pack-wolves, Elysium wolves, Harper had said, and Boa remembered them... whether fondly or... not so, uh, good. He continued onforth.

When @Kuhn came to mind, of whom he missed dearly; being able to find the comfort and warmth within another of similar species was, as always, a nice feeling, and sure, @Hosea was also a feline, but Boa couldn't help the fact that she seemed... ruder. Boa longed to see the second – or, first, really? Maybe? – suncat once more, and ask him how things were going; how was he and @Valmúa, the viking warrior-lady he'd told him about? Boa grinned at the thought of the two, almost thinking that such a relationship was ridiculous and unrealistic until he remembered, ah, yes, he was also in a closer relationship with a wolf. He smiled wider.

His brain would force away unfinished memories, or those of which upset him, though Maya's voice rung in the back of his head every now and then. Oh, how he missed her so, though he shook his head and continued, finally growing closer to the scent of the mountain goat after spending all this time reminiscing on sweet times. Boa blinked for a few moments, unsheathing his claws as he prowled forwards; he'd had his little moment, but now it was time to focus, to get into the game, and to win. Yeah, he'd show that mountain goat who was fucking boss. His claws gave a malicious itch as he went forwards, brows creasing. The sire crouched among the shrubbery as if that would help.

Ah, how he wished for a pelt like Hosea's in that very moment, but nonetheless, he'd wait a few heartbeats before pouncing, claws digging into the creatures shoulder as it reared up and tried to run. Boa gave a dissatisfied scowl, though he quickly followed after easily cornering the creature upon the mountain top; this was a dangerous dance, upon this ledge, and while it wasn't yet above cloud level, that fall would still hurt, if you didn't die of fear on your way down. He shuddered for a moment, though continued to stare at the prey before leaping for it once more. Die.
