Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Fond memories were on his mind, of the last he knew of his young siblings. They were at that mischievous age which simply meant only grievances for either mother or Teodora to run around after them. He smiled at the thought, of fleeing children refusing their bedtime or rejecting another lesson of teachings. How fortuitous they were that it was not the numerous paws of eight whelps they were chasing, but only half of that this time. Unbeknownst to the duke, there was the demise of a brother to deal with along with a string of other unfortunate happenings, so such merry thoughts were to become short-lived.

After his morning with Remus, Warwick made his initial plan his priority once more - to seek the matriarch of all here. He sought the well-loved woven path that was the leading trail to the pocket of dens his mother chose from. Her perfume lingered in a mist that was the flag of her presence. She was home and this fluttered a heartstring of his; of excitement and longing.

Not likely soon was he to depart her company again. The echo of the forest, the very one his mother found, would always beat in his chest. The duke was attached to The Elks Crown as though it ran as an artery within him, and it was without a doubt his mother ran alongside it. He suddenly thought of her well-being and prayed to He that she was in good health.
Warwick broke his forward momentum, stopping short of the entryway to her abode. Reaching his nose to the heavens of clear blue above, a much more boastful call, of young masculinity with a depth of descending decibels, left his maw to announce his arrival back from his long journey with his siblings.

It had been some time since a few departed from Elkshire. It had started with the disappearance of her kin, where firstly Edith had disappeared and the following of two sons.. Eventually though it was discovered where they were, and perhaps should've been the first place to visit but the thought seemed to not even occur. One remained in Nightwalkers though, taking on the training of the Warlord with the hopeful word to return ; so she prayed would be real. His stand-off nature made her uncomfortable, where she felt a distance and words that weren't true and a wondering whether Calhoun would truly return home.. Though even her cousin, as much as he questioned every choice she made, he was still loyal, the one admiration that in the end could never be denied. Was her son, the mimicry of him, the same?

Then was the disappoint of the youngest.. The gray son that she had ignored so, but in truth had a little affection through his coat. How she tried though, the mother did try.. His natural nature was something though that pushed any away and instead of trying further, Celnes simply did not. She was pushed away and kept like so, all the way until he disappeared, and even torn words at the Warwick.. Where the two seemed to scorn each other, and even scorns her name. She wonders how Aldritch was doing, especially as it has been a year. Despite such misgivings, there was the faintest familial attraction that he was doing well. Though there was other dark thoughts that yet to breach the surface.

Eventually Edith, Calhoun and Warwick went on an adventure.. But not without more departing, such as Vermillion to Greenwood. Quiet was over there, but she had faith of their connection due to her daughter. Celnes was all the more willing to let her have her wings if it meant gaining so, but it seemed even she was surprise that the Queen allowed her, and even the three to embark on so.. And so she too left, with Remus ; whom Celnes was sure would not return, but he did, alongside of the eventual Edith.

Hawking was also absent and remained so, she would think that perhaps he was hunted. Doc requested some time away and so she granted — the Queen believed she was playing the game well. If she let such members free-reign to do so, there was thought they would return home satisfied. That is also a reason she tried not to push Calhoun or Edith too hard, in the hope with their own will, they'd return.. It worked with one, but not the other yet.

How she missed many and desired so. It was strange how some came to Elkshire by the whims of her son and daughters adventures, where both were starting to become worthy of the crown. Warwick was always though, Celnes thought as she roamed through the autumn forest. He was named heir after all, in any adventure she would happen to fall, or to do within her own stead. She had hoped this adventure he went on would harden his soft heart.. Such a gentle boy, who cared not to discrimination of the High Elk and loved with all his heart.

So when she heard his call, her mood instantly uplifted. The Queen ran through the forest, the scent of her son that was coated in unfamiliar hues was to be found, and she was all the more welcoming. She was not faltering from such affection, to immediately reach out and drench her own scent upon him — the scent of Elkshire. Love and kisses was given, a quiet welcome back through her actions.

Her son was home.

He was home.

'Mother', he whispered contently as he caught a glance of the - indisputably - most sumptuous chocolate robe. The Deorwine prince stood, embracing his mother's affection and returned his own unfalteringly but carefully since he was the grown son now and did not want to be seen by those lurking as otherwise. He lapped at her cheek and emitted the softest of whines to signify his gratitude for her presence and for being back home. He missed his mother and he missed the Elks Crown.

Oh, how doubts about his mother's self-inflicted wrongdoings were almost rid in just that instance.
