Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Miriam passed through the forest, the sun had long since set and the world was covered within a darkness. Quiet and peaceful, an eeriness much like when she stepped into the Blackwood of the temperate, yet she knew here was.. Relatively safe, there was not a claimed land or what seemed to be one near, yet she was naïve, for she did not know how aggressive the other packs were.

Her ears flickered, the sound of something was awfully close, clicking and clacking and she followed through. Passing between the great oaks and hearing the sounds of the owls hooting, Miriam found a small pumpkin batch, large and orange — ripped from their stems, and rolling from the animals picking at it away. Yet she hesitated, standing before a pumpkin that rolled just a bit away from the rest.. It was vibrating, making noises.. Screeching, almost.

As the dusk falls and the silence of the night comes, you feel a chill creep up your back. You come across a stray pumpkin, whether in a pumpkin patch or somewhere it shouldn't be.. Something seems off about it. You hear strange noises coming from the pumpkin itself.

She couldn't fucking sleep in this frigid fucking shit-hole of a place, the fucking mountains blocked out the sun, the fog clung to her fur in drips and crystalline beads, and no matter where she looked it was fucking... hard, like some prick decided the whole of a territory needed to exist to make harder the impossible task of sleeping without a bed or a full stomach or the warmth of a woman at her beck and desire. Fuck! Fuck! She could thank father dearest for this dick-kicker of an outcome.

Given, this place wasn't boring.

Under the guidance of the moon, Darcella wandered and crept until a curious noise drew her toward the location of another—a woman, delicate and wispy in the moonlight... and the fucking blemishes of, what, rocks? Orange deformed rocks? Darcella made the move to approach her, a hum in her throat—

—and then the rock... screamed? "The hell's that?" she said, coming up on the woman's side with her ears pinned back and spine rigid, eyes honed on the rock. "Is it fucking pregnant?"

In current threads (as of any new ones 11/1), Darcella is missing a good portion of each of her ears; wounds healing but identifiably fresh.

Another approached, spilling words that had the moonlit wolf chuckle lightly before she responded, "a pumpkin — a plant, edible, delicious... Though I don't ever recall the ability to be pregnant." She had seen oversized ones, plants and the liking, where logic could not explain the enormous physiques. Though wolves at times have hit sizes she had never seen before, remembering the view within the temperate grounds that stood above what she thought was 'normal.' The world was strange like that, she thought.

Though all around pumpkins may be, there was only one that moved and screamed like something else. Vibrating as if alive but any knew plants could not move like that, "shall we find out?" alone is scary, but with two it's doable. Even the ravens seemed to urge them on as their croaking as heard in the distance.

Her biggest—no—her only flaw was that women beckoned her wordlessly and she was compelled to answer even when said women were being objectively fucking imbecilic. Darcella's ears flattened tight against her skull, staring stupidly whale-eyed at the fucking thing as it shook and looked about on the verge of puking its guts out. "The hell is a pumpkin?" said Darcella, looking at the other with pinched brows and a particular curiosity to her that some might call... innocent, boyish. Her home hadn't such ugly ass things laying around, wasting space with girth. "You eat them?" It was a nope from her; she wasn't about to eat something some bastard fucked. She had eyes. It was pregnant.

Shall we find out?

No, we fucking shouldn't but it didn't seem to matter because the woman asked and of course, Darcella would follow. Fuck. "I guess," she said, lowering her head and creeping forward, far from some gallant hero as she stuck close to the other's side—not out of fear, mind you, but she knew it'd read as such. "Pspspsps..."

Night was apparant, where the whispers of the wild was unheard and unseen. The ravens croaked, and the owls hooted in the distance. Her ears flickered to the sound of the rustling trees as a wind brushed by, and she gazed to the mighty sky. Brushed by the moon itself, dancing onto the pumpkin patch before the two. She could see more in the distance, but this one remained away and croaking.. There was bite marks upon the rim the more it moved, and when she looked around the faint smell of another on the wind. She could somewhat guess what was in there, "you can," she said with a smile.

The other approached, and perhaps it spooked the creature inside a bit more then usual. Her ears flattened to the sound of screeching, and soon after a dark object blasted itself outside of the pumpkin — almost as if it was a bird diving away, "oh my, a bat."
