Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The range that she entered, and the beginning of an unfolding event. Her fur rose, as her ears perked highly for the lips curled back as she let out a small snarl to the other. A paw was upon the ground, grazing it like an elk would before a lunge ; but she was waiting, and watching. She wasn't as big as the rest, and she still didn't have appropriate abilities, to analyze and wait, to make sure she didn't mistake again through her previous attacks.

A stand-still, the raccoon and Faust were staring in malice at each other, unmoving.

Well. This was something.

He had inched closer at the snarls, and chitters, teal eyes unblinking as he looked at the scene. Kaiser shifted uncomfortably as if he pondered inwardly what to do. He didn't, though. It was difficult to describe what he thought; because it didn't take very long to act on whatever he felt he had to do.

"Shoo" he uttered, lanky legs almost tripping over themselves as he scooted closer. He went to the side of the girl, staring openly at the raccoon and not at all disturbed. He wasn't his full height yet, but he could at least pass for a coyote — something he knew was the predator of this beastie! "go on, shoo."

As if the little bandit would listen. Well, he tried to be nice about it. Without a second thought, he lunged. Kaiser managed to grasp the back of the raccoon's neck, and swung it. In a low arch, mind, but enough aggression behind it to scare the shit out of it. He let go at the end, causing it to be flung rather carelessly.

While there were now teeth marks on it's neck, it didn't bleed as much as Kaiser could do damage. "Go." The yearling began again, stepping toward it. He remained unnaturally calm about it, as if he didn't give a shit if he got hurt in the process. The raccoon chittered indignantly one final time.

It ran.

Kaiser watched it go, one eye flickered down to look at the girl. Ah, she wasn't harmed. Good. Good good goodie.

The raccoon hissed, it's own form within hostility and ruffled fur. A snarl rippling as it used a paw to claw the air, a threat, the young Deorwine deemed, as she stepped back in that moment, almost thinking that they would've lunged. Instead the continual stand-still, a hissing raccoon, and a growling pup was given, and neither wished to standby. They were small enough, Faust thought, that she could win.. But also a risk would be from their fat form.

Her paws curled into the earth, for a moment she was to lunge and prepared so with the snarl of threaten from her jowls, and yet instead, she turned with a narrowed look to someone else. A blessed wolf, but he did not smell like Elkshire ; nor any that she knew. He was as tall as her mother, and with simple words, intimidated the raccoon that ran away..

A guard that was within her stance faltered, and a fur slicked back as she looked at him.

It'd be silly to ask if she was 'okay'. She clearly was, untouched by the raccoon. He had come just in time. And hey, she also smelt like a pack. But not here... so, where? He hadn't been to Sleeping Doe's Range yet, so he associated pack scent with a formal ground. Not association. Though Elk's Crown was very close by — unknown to him.

Though she seemed a bit nerved by his presence.

"Oh. Did I scare you too?" he asked her instead, ears pinning against his skull. While not very good with kids, Kaiser didn't want to freak her out. He looked quite odd without his ears, almost like an owl of some kind. Especially his big old eyes, both now staring down at her "I won't hurt you..." Though how could she know that? He was a stranger, for goodness sake.

The boy looked almost wearily defeated despite his victory. Was this one even old enough to be weaned? He didn't know. Why was she out here alone? He also didn't know. "Do you know where you live?" he asked her, frowning "uh, I could walk you back?" Despite the girl being a child, he left it up to her. Kaiser didn't know what else to do for her.

But he couldn't leave her here... Maybe. Yes. He could. But that'd be bad right? She could die alone. Not that he had any formal attachment to her, nor owe her anything... Ah, no. What was he thinking? He wouldn't leave her.

"This is Elkshire territory," Faust said plainly at the man as her ears flickered. She informed of such territories, despite how little it actually smelled.. Though they tried to claim both the range and the woodlands, their scent rarely remained and continued to remain an unofficial and try-hard territory. There was only so much a pack can do when half were children, yearling at the most and others were long-gone to their own selfish desires. The Queen allowed so many to come in and out that even a child can notice it.

"Who are you?" Faust asked, as her lips curled to a small, small smile.
