Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

You can find him collapsed a foot over the boarders!

With every pace he walked, stains of blood painted the ground he trudged slowly against. A tounge hanging out of his mouth in exhaustion and pain, and the deep gashes of tissue within his shoulder blade grating against cold air and skin friction everytime he flexed it. The bear that had been trailing him to finish what it started lost Fionn and the red boy took that as an opportunity of escape from jaws ready to take his life, but that did not mean he could escape its attempt -- and now Fionn bled out.

Now, as he clumsily limped with heavy breaths and an increasingly fuzzy vision, desperate for the scent of others and help --

-- yet before he could even call out, he'd faint;

The morning hour brought sun sickness but he wore the pelt Aries made him. It staved off most of the albinism, even if he felt dizzy wearing it. Torben felt the need to prove he could stand outside for longer than required, and do things that were also required of him. That's when the scent of blood hit his nose, and he rushed toward the border.

He half expected to see a fight, but all he saw was a young man bleeding out. It was all of two seconds before he lifted his head, howling to the rest of Duskguard. "It's okay" he murmured, more to himself than to the collapsed lad. Torben moved closer, having ever intention of shielding the other from any predators that may be lurking. He knew the markings to be bear.

A bear did this. Was it close, even? He hoped Aries or Olive were around to assist because Torben knew nothing about healing. He had the thought to scoop up snow and press it to their wounds but wondered if that would cause more harm than good. "Can ya hear me, lad?" he asked in concern, nosing the man's cheek.

Scabiosa hears the call, isnt sure what to make of it, but she moves closer. She hasn't made the biggest bond with the pack yet, but she's sure to answer when someone is in need. And it sounds like someone is now.

First attracted by the howl, next pushed by the scent, Scabiosa makes a mad dash to where the scent of blood resides. A dark guy on the ground, Torben standing over him, Scabiosa stops next to the two of them. She's probably not the wolf Torben wanted to call, but she's the one who showed up. Time to make do.

Scabiosa isn't exactly sure the herbs one can find out here - or if there's any that can really help here, but first they've got to stop the bleeding if they can, and if she can find something that lessens pain she'll grab it.

'We need to clean his wound." Obvious, but still. "If we can find soft soil we can use it to stop the bleeding for now." A slurry of words before Scabiosa leans in to look at the wound more - dangerous, bad. He's lucky he only escaped with that.

She'd move to clean it quickly, they need to move fast.

Oh how Aries was scrambling with her satchel once she heard the call. She hadn't yet to experience anyone a bit injured, so the snow-maiden was a bit frantic on what she should gather.. Feverfew? Just in case — ah, bistort and huckle berries too! All great tools to use toward severe injuries, some treating for inflammation or possible fevers to break out, and others to put on wounds to prevent such an infection ; she would hope it wasn't as severe, as the woman was dragging her animal hide full of herbs on over.

"I brought herbs!" Aries said as her mouth was full. She hadn't met Scabiosa, but there was relief as the other seemed to know what she was doing as well.

He'll still be awake, but I'll allow power play since Fionn is in a weakened state rn

His sides heaved, and though his lips just barely mouthed the word "bear" in a whisper, every rise and fall of his chest a strain on broken skin -- even talking hurt. Made drunken by blood loss and a searing pain that was too strong to keep consciousness. An ear flickered lazily at the approach of one, two -- maybe even three more blurry figures through half-lidded eyes. Fionn was going to die again, surely....with his wounds there was no possible way he could've made it.

Would his death be legitimate now, he wondered. The boy so selfishly wished for death upon his arrival here that he couldn't even realize that it wasn't what he truly wanted..

A woman he had never met came upon the scent, spouting they needed to use soil. "No" Torben disagreed with a shake of his head. He kneaded the ground with one paw, displaying it was too frozen. If they wanted soil that was soft, it'd be too long of a trek. Who knows when the man would get treatment? "this here soil is too hard from the Tundra's cold." And if she tried to press hard and probably bug-filled soil on open wounds like this, he'd shove her away for the safety of the other wolf's life. Packmate be damned, he wasn't going to see someone die from mistreatment.

Aries arrived on the scene, proclaiming she had brought herbs. He nodded to her, gladdened she had come prepared. "We can use the snow" He uttered logically, trying to sound more confident than he appeared "to clean blood and dirt from the wounds, aye?" The more he thought about it, the more sense it was. Water was typically frozen here, and too difficult to transport "please, ma'am, help me wit' this." He added to @Scabiosa as he scooped up snow in his paws, applying it to the nearest wound he could. The snow melted under the body heat the red-black man radiated, but also cleaned the wounds properly.

"Aries?" He added after a bit of cleaning "can ye prepare some poultice?" If Scabiosa helped with cleaning, Aries was left free to do this. He didn't like giving orders to his packmates, but if nothing was going to be done - and quick - this man would die.

Another arrives, thankfully - Scabiosa does not need to do this alone, she's not used to needing to deal with wounds in places so cold all the time. Clear by the correction sent her way by her albino packmate. Surely the mountains are covered in hard soil, it would take too long to find something soft enough to use. Now that she thinks about it, it makes sense. She rushes to help grab snow and chill the wound - a two in one. Cleaning and soothing the burning that the stranger must be feeling. Scabiosa doesn't like being directed, but in situations of stress - like this - it makes sense.

"Snow would do best in a situation of quick adjustment, it should help ease the flow and soak the blood around. On a calmer session, we can find clay or mud." Aries nodded to Torben's suggestion, she did not hear the dirt part but agreed his sounded more plausible and more was well on the way she learned. Although it was most likely much different to wolves who lived within the mountain and did not have snow to use ; maybe a light thankfulness she was born and still founded within the snow-lands.

"Are you okay sir?" As she was preparing the herbs and poultice needed, before she started the munching to produce so ; the woman gave a quick look to the reddened man. A stark contrast to the white wonderland — he was handsome, but weakened. Was his conscious still there?
