Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

looking for perhaps @Remus but others open!

She the Wysteria's were always pretty. They were hushed willows, sinking in in both apple orchids and wysteries of the red-variety. Suited highly to those of the warmer edge, and yet felt plainly weird against her own, and her brothers cooler tones. It was like another toy of but being difference, and she would think of it.. But it wasn't nature that made this way ; it simply existed, before religion. It stayed pretty, and would continue — she enjoyed being in the midst of it.

Today somewhat smelled strange, as she approached a fallen apple. It was slightly rotten, but something smelled.. She wouldn't say rancid, but a strange musk from it that wasn't the usual rot she knew. Almost tempting to eat, she would dare say — but was that wise? Faust was bent down, smelling it cautiously, toying with such thoughts.

Faithful to his routine, the guard circled the edges of Elkshire. Though today something was a bit different , his rigid march was replaced with something much more fluid and carefree.

It would seem that the gods had deemed it time for the plants to start dropping their fruit.

Blinking to make the form come into focus, the man was able to make out the form of Faust, who was in the path of the planned route for the day.

Coming closer the man spotted the other wolf sniffing at an apple. Looking around at his feet, the earth wobbled and there they where, beautiful fallen apples.

Only fools would want the fresh ones. Gently bumping the young wolf out of the way,
"you might be a little young for these!", Chuckled the guard, snatching up the rotten fruit into his maw.

Fluidly prancing a pace away, he crushed the apple in his war hardened Jaws, lapping up the fermented juices of the fruit.

"It's Faust right?" , he asked after he was done, licking his chops.

Faust raised a brow as she looked at Remus who moved the fruit away, "Why?" she so asked with honesty. He ate it so vigorly, was it something special of sorts? It surely smelled strange then the typical fruity smell apples usually gave ; but any wolf with a nose could tell something was a bit different. No one was to answer but him, as she nodded to his question.

Really the girl's simple question wasn't something that he was really ready to answer. He could think of some reasons, or maybe it was just because he wanted that apple.

Shrugging his shoulders, "mhm?" was all he could reply. There was probably some reason, but he couldn't think of any.

Scanning around, the wolfs eyes registered at least a dozen more expired apples. "Well I guess, I will not stop you."

But she better not go crying to mom when her stomach flipped into a knot.

"I had thought rotten apples were bad for you." Faust commented plainly as she observed Remus who seemed a bit too interested in them and even partook in the delicacy that the elk too, had ate. When she looked back there was but a pile of lazed ones, far too 'out of it' to properly retreat by their forming figures. Although the elk in Elkshire were comfortable, it didn't mean that wolves could easily approach them with an ease ; and half the time would flee in the midst of the forest. There was some parts in The Elk's Crown that were untouchable, a sanctuary, just for the elk.

But they moved as they pleased, ate as they pleased.. And she looked with a curiosity at him. Faust was cautious on what she ate and drink, for the rivers that were poisoned.. To the own temptations she experimented within her belly of poisons, she refrained from taking part in the apple eating.

"Ah yes that is what an adult would say, isn't it?", the guard chuckled lowly. It was a perfect out. Now the child would likely not be tempted to try, and he had deniability.

Scanning around at the open pastures, the guards sunken eyes took their time to look over the elk and the surrounding landscape.

Turning back to the child, Remus took a moment to link the name to the face. "Faust? Who do you plan to be in Elkshire?"

Turning away she looked at the guard. He played a prominent part of the elder childrens adulthood, but not so much within her own. She was often toyed away by Maral or otherwise Teodora, there was at one point Hawking by the deer had been long for so. He was as well at one point, she heard he went to guide her elder sister Vermillion to a nearby pack ; Greenwood. A sister she has never met, but only heard caters to red-eyes and has white.

"Me," would Faust say cooly at the man. She couldn't say by definite who she wanted to be in Elkshire. She was a Princess by blood, a Deorwine, a royalty, and even partook in some classes of so. However by the discretion of family all around, she wasn't at the same time. A lot of personality changes, a lot of differences and confidence rising..

But she knew she didn't want to be anyone else, but herself in these woods.

"Well isn't that obvious...", Retorted the hardened man with a slight chuckle.   Hooking his paw around another rotten fruit, the guard pulled it toward his chest, laying himself down with the treat.  Maybe he felt like humoring the girl at the moment.  Or maybe that was some sort of sign she was a lot like her mother.

"You are some sort of royal right? Eventually you will have some power to sculpt the land to your liking. So...who will you be?", he added gently, putting his paw up on the expired fruit to pin to the floor.

"I want to be me." Faust repeated and looked at him, unturning and unblinking within her resounded voice. She did not wish to be seen as a Princess of Elkshire, one that was royal, yet not. Where a title was there but everything else lacked, because the other that she was seen was but a cursed member of the pack. Like her other siblings, they were seen nothing more then stains that led them to the pack of wickedness, a darkness that was said to take over — but she felt they let that darkness continue on, saying what will be and what will not, almost as if a path was being forced.

She had already embraced it, however. So young and tainted, turmoils that was ; attacked more then a few times, and even by those she was supposed to call family. Not even they see her as a sister, but neither does Faust. She does not want to be seen as but another sibling, another child of the Queen.

She wanted to be just.. Her.

It was usually easier to hide his emotion, though this magical juice that fermented from the trees made it so it was a bit less tempting. "I sense that you are trying to be poetic girl...", he replied with narrow eyes.

Changing his object of focus, the grizzled wolf began to scrape at the skin of the apple with his front teeth.

Looking up he paused for a moment. "You know it sort of looses its effect if you say the same thing twice."

Her eyes locked onto him with a similar narrow. Maybe a flicker of embarassment with her ears ; there was a melachony that wrapped Faust. A child who tried to act older as she was, though in truth her mentality did evolve in ways with a rather mismatch childhood. To be ignored, to be attacked twice, but to protected and smothered by another ; she tried words and ways that matched theres, and was lightly displeased how this man pointed out, what Faust believed, was pointing out those flaws. Because she was still a child.

"Then who are you in Elkshire, mister?"

"Remus... Guard and war tutor." He stated plainly, before taking a larger bite from the soggy apple. "Not too long ago, I was a teacher for your siblings..."

Now unable to help himself, the grizzled man's jaws parted, crushing the apple into two, lapping up its juices.

Pausing shortly, the man looked back at the girl from the corner of his eye. "Now, girl... I think you might have been trying to express something important. Something about being true to yourself?"

It was a good guess, maybe she just needed a little push.

"Are you going to teach us too?" She asked curiously, although a bit bitterly. Her littermates were given relatively the same royal lessons as well as the talks of religion, but otherwise were to fend for themselves. They were not given a seperate teacher of the sorts, although during their time of growth and figuring out speech, Remus was still within Greenwood alongside of her older sister, Vermillion.

"Does it matter anymore?" Her paw rolled to a fallen apple, having it go back and forth as she answered with a lackluster.

"Of course it matters, if aren't authentic to yourself than can you find anything that really matters?", he retorted, feeling a bit of sting himself. Had he even been taking his own advice lately. Taking another munch of his apple, he hoped that would quiet the discordant thoughts.

Feeling his thoughts dull and the world soften he continued to answer the child's first question. "If you are seeking out lessons, I will not deny them to you."

Truth was she was curious of the man who mentored her older siblings, but not her littermates. He was gone for some time but even then their mother didn't reach out to make such lessons happen. However now circles were happening and she disliked the feeling he looked down upon her, especially since she was a child. Her small stature remained firm as she was growing, and was oh-so far from hitting that of even a year. Her tail curled in displeasure, watching him engulf the rotten fruit displayed over the ground. Indulging himself in it, and she couldn't understand what was so tempting to something that smelled so bitter.

"What do you teach?" Faust was curious on whether he was useful in that or not.. But as she looked at him a displeasure rose that was quipped with a neutral look. She wasn't sure she could handle lessons from him, but she also was very curious on what her older siblings had learned.. Was there a difference that made from his teaching? Was that how Maral had gained such prowess, or was it all from the Nightwalkers? The smell of them was faintly remembered.. Would his lectures, even hold a difference in the power she sought?

Either the child chose not to bite on his question of abstract thought or she was just rather dull, letting her mind bounce from one object of interest to the next.  Even in his slightly intoxicated state, this conversation began to feel like effort. "Philosophy... and all matters of war.", he answered plainly.

With the last batch of the mad queen's spawn he had essentially forced some of them to learn, while others took to it from their own will.  But, forcing wasn't something he typically liked to do.  Though, if one came to him in the pursuit of knowledge, he wouldn't dare turn them down.

"I'll keep that in mind.." So the child squeeked out, for in truth she was curious. Maybe he'd be helpful to power herself, but she wanted to know how much he taught her elder siblings, compared to what wasn't taught for them. She looked at him — flashing a similar smile to Celnes, before turning away from him and leaving to his.. Apple eating.
