Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

He wandered for what felt like an age, across territory that stretched barren for miles all around him. Venamis was painfully aware of the strain of his travels in the aching muscles of his legs, the numbness of his paws in snow, and he was exhausted. The young rogue thought often of Teinaava and Ocheeva, his caretakers, and at times he wondered if they'd set this up to test him. He had no idea how he came to wind up there, after all, but he was more than ready for it all to be over.

Oh, how he longed for the comfort of Cheydinhal. How he yearned for the familiarity of the Brotherhood.

Snow fell softly, flakes clinging to the tufts of his raven ears and the whiskers on his jowls, and it dusted his hunched shoulders as he crossed a frozen lake. Venamis was so cold and hungry that he was barely aware of how the terrain had changed beneath his feet, and he carried on with the hope that there's be some luck thrown his way sooner rather than later.

mental reminder before sent out & before learning more of war

The backyard of the Frostfang, normally unseen due to the scope of the mountain and thoughts didn't come much about it. Though curiosity had gotten the best of her at one day, and Aries found herself soaring through and into it's back of the north ; where a grand lake could be seen, stretching for miles. She would think it was but another water source, but unfortunately as she got close, the white hare realized quickly that the great body of water was frozen. Even a paw gingerly touched, and non to be cracked.

Yellow eyes grazed so, seeing that although some spots had opening to submerge into it's icy depths, most remained untouched. Snow grazed the ground, scattering the sky in a quiet stillness where not even birds could be seen. Nothing but even steps — but who could miss a wandering figure that travelled in it's wake? Dark unlike that of the tundra land, a stand alone that brought a curious eye to Aries.

Nothing upon the wind, only a loner in the midst. A curious mind couldn't help but wonder what he was doing all alone in this vast wasteland of ice and water?

Venamis lifted his frosted eyes, cast his stare into the whiteness of the world that lay before him. At times he'd seen the faraway horizon, the distant jutting of ice-capped peaks, but the weather was swift to change. Whenever the snows came, unfortunately frequent, the spider would lose his way.

Each time when he'd tire, Venamis would curl close to himself and let snow pile atop his body. It'd be biting cold at first, but eventually warmth would seep into his bones - just enough that he might rest. The young wolf paused to prepare himself for such again, a rugged paw working to scrape a hollow in the snow, when he caught sight of something in the corner of his eye.

He turned his head, saw a silverwhite figure lurking - gawking at him. Venamis frowned back, uncertain, and considered with silent envy how she appeared to have been built for such an unforgiving environment.

Not a figment of an illusion but a true wolf ; and even from a distance she could note their tall legs and yet, young features. When they turned toward her, she blinked and realized the rudeness that had happened and smiled lightly, calling out to them, "Ah, i'm sorry, I did not mean to stare.. It is just rare to see wolves out here." Specifically one that was near pitch-black like the Chief, but as well to find someone on this glacier water?

Strange presence overall, a somewhat mythic vibe that was felt.

She stared right back, and through softly falling snow he noted a pair of gilded eyes that stood out against pale features. A maiden of the North, one who he was unsure of until her lips curved upward in a delicate smile. Venamis did not offer any warmth in return. Instead, he maintained his blank expression and briefly curled the very tip of his obsidian tail, trying to decide if her presence offended him or not.

It did, in some ways, because she was not Teinaava nor Ocheeva. She did not belong to the cult who dwelled in Cheydinhal at all, and thus he could not trust her. The spider exhaled in a low rumble through his nostrils, and rudely turned away to carry on with his roaming.

Although she tried to communicate, the black shadow stared without an expression, and she wasn't sure what to do when nothing was said by him again. Lightly her smiled falter to a bit of a pitied sadness when he had turned away. No name, no nothing ; an entity she didn't know who walked among the ice and did not seem like a northern by any means. Someone so young as well, who she couldn't smell a pack upon the wind, all seemed to say he was a simple loner.

Aries didn't wish to impose and bother, and was quietly watching his departing figure, vaguely wandering and hoping, whether he would turn around again.
