Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Faust was associating herself with herbs in the meanwhile, most particulary what caused the most harm. She couldn't fight her older sister, fairly at the stance she stood, and took ways that new would hurt another as watched the medic take and avoid so. What was harm, and what was not — what animlals avoided, and what they ate to sooth themselves. She attempted, of course, to try and cause a bellyache for her, but the prize was always left uneaten, rotting away on the road of a trap an obvious child made.

She knew elk like berries, and looked at some and wondered why, they all remained un-ate? By the judgements of before something was wrong with them — and Faust thought lightly whether to attempt a nibble.. But her stomach churned remembering the last time she did so, which caused an embarrassing moment of vomiting out of both ends.

She didn't want to go to the medics, in fear that it'd be reported back to both the other siblings and her mother of why she was curious of poisonous herbs. The best was done, was to live and learn what to use. The berries before her were laid on a leaf, and she stood distances away. No animal ate it, no matter how much time passed.

she was quiet and consistent in the decrepitude of the crown's shade, a growing interest in life as she saw it. she came upon faust in the midst of trouble, someone like rohesia knew trouble best, especially when she used it to vie for her mother's attention. faust was poised with anticipation, but she was a different type of hunter. glancing at the berries on the leaf, she came up sneakily behind her little sister, "no animal in their right mind would eat those berries. they’re so obvious," she whispered with an edge of mischief. was she trying to hunt in some complicated way? she waited for the child to answer, her alabaster accents and dark pelt reminding her sisters. she didn't have to imagine what her mother thought of them, because they had been neglected by their mother insofar. the cygnet didn't bother knowing them either, but there was no one else to bother. additionally, she couldn’t deny she was curious as to why she was using such poisons while less deadly in the first place.

Her elder sister approached, she was bathed lightly in sun-bleached brown with creams, but a dazzling yellow field gaze. Rose-tinted, perhaps, but within the righteous colors of the beloved High Elk. Her tail curled beside her, looking at a sibling who barely, if not at all interacted before, and it was a new feeling altogether. Some caution was held, for she never knew how these holy siblings would react to her, be like a Maral, a Warwick, or an Edith?

Yet they spoke of the trap Faust laid, and she looked back at the herbs. Untouched, the sun setting high on them and most likely would rot by the picking — but as delicious as they look, nothing came, "why?" the alabastar-tipped deorwine asked, the understanding of poison was so foreign. She tried it without knowing, but how would the deer know? The fawns that were born? To avoid such remedies and know which is right, and which is not.. Her stomach churned remembering what she once ate and knowing not to.. By how do they know..?

Is poison known by instinct? Was it poison? She wanted to know, and expected Rohesia to answer.

"i mean, all prey has innate survival instincts. like fuckin' uhhh ... mother wit," despite the unreliable narrator she was, rohesia was lacking in many skills besides hunting.
talking because her voice still cracked like a plastic Barney plate and she the type to use the word ironic with unwavering confidence in scenarios where she was totally incorrect.
attracting because her love language was taking your insecurities and making sharp jabs about them for a laugh. consequently, she was a shit mentor.
"they stick to whatever doesn't make them blow chunks out of both ends. it's always faster to track and kill them. at least you decide how long you wait," faust had potential to be a real fred jones if she wanted to, she had the nature for it.

She was silent and listened, a sister who barely interacted and yet took a moment of minor teachings, perhaps wasn't as bad as she kept assuming.. Although there was a slight guard, and hummed lightly as she listened, gazing at the wonders of her berries, to Rohesia, and to where she could smell elk within the distance. Although her toy was not to hunt them using such a methods, she merely.. Wanted a testing ground.

"How do you hunt?" Faust said, asking her and slightly leaning if she wanted to teach the young Deorwine.

rohesia felt foreign being needed, or asked of anything. she was proficient in the bare minimum of things and forlorn in every other sphere of influence.
she resented how she was only an extra tagged onto a product that was her family, but could do nothing about. faust briefly blew those existential shedding at her feet away like a celtic cloud.
"... i guess i could, if no one will. clean up your mess first and i will teach you how to ambush." she as doing it more for her than faust, but maybe something good would come of it.

She looked at what she did and quietly moved it underneath a bush ; not sure where else to put it. It wasn't as if the elk would attempt to eat much less the bird, both them and Rohesia made it clear they had more intelligence then just that. Although it was a continual wondering of what could fool them otherwise? That was still a question for another day and to continue remaining rather.. Would she be punished for attempting to try and poison Edith? Most likely.

So with so, she looked at Rohesia with expectations. What would she teach?

she didn't know what teacher and student kind-of deal they had, but she'd entertain it for not. "show me your stance first," she directed cooly, flouncing to faust's side waiting for her to do as she said on the dot. not the most patient of tutors, the girl would find.

Faust moved low to the ground, where even her belly was actually touching. Although legs where in near-perfect stance, she had her tail raised high and body simply covering too close. She at times would pick up but much of the debri on the forest floor slacked into her pelt as the young Deorwine would move through the hunt, and looked at Rohesia with expecting eyes. Was her position good?
