The forest he walked through was disconcerting. Things were not as they seemed. One moment, he would look at a tree, but the next, it would be coated in a strange haze. He didn't trust any of it. He had never trusted anything, in fairness.
This place hugged the river, and today it was running fast. He watched as it flowed, but it never took any obstacles with it. It never slowed. If anything, the torrent furied, flinging water about at the centre of the water, angrily flooding forth.
It could not be crossed, so Taikon stood looking at it, brows raised, distracted, almost angry.

Miriam had crossed the river to venture to the mountains. Something sweet had traveled across on the wind, as the storms were coming ; and she curiously followed to. Although it wasn't the first time she ventured into it, it was today that it smelled absolutely divine. At one point she couldn't help but lick the blood-red sap on the trees.. Before meekly looking around to see if anyone had spotted her. But she was alone! For the moment, and filled herself lightly. A thunder, boomed across the sky ; and the moonlit wolf knew it was time to return to the temperate. It wasn't that she held a den there, but for the meanwhile enjoyed sleeping within the forests, specifically somewhere near flowers.

But sadly enough, as she came close to the river ; it seemed it became a temporary rapid, "Oh my," she said, as she approached near another wolf, "I don't suppose I could cross over, could I?" and smiled at the stranger. They looked a bit angry though.

The young girl followed behind her papa, nose in the air as she sniffed everything around her. This was all new to her and she enjoyed it. Ears flicked as she heard the sounds of another, instantly her gaze shooting to the new wolf. Almost instantly, she bounded over, happy and open as ever. "Hi there!" She said, though remembered that her papa hated new people and would instead let out a soft growl. "Wait no, you're a new wolf. You could be bad!" With that, she would move to hide behind her papa, looking up at him with eyes that asked if she did that right.

There was something unnerving about the forest they had come to. The air felt close and the strange disease that coated nearly every tree with a strange substance was disconcerting, at best. Vedetta followed along in all of her excitement, and it was hard with her around to feel down at any point despite their circumstances. He had not been able to find food in a while. Being a wolf that specialized in smaller prey, he had hoped moving closer to the water would grant them some luck with water fowl or rodents.
But there was nowhere to cross at this point, and the water was far too quick for hunting.
His adopted daughter's shouting was what first alerted him to the presence of another wolf given the rushing noise of the water. He moved to correct her, but she did this on her own, and he smiled.
The air held an uncomfortable static and pressure to it. His very bones could feel the oncoming rains as the other moved close to the banks.
“No,” he answered simply. “Not here, at least. Maybe the storm hit upwind and the waters are swelling,” he surmised.
“Are there shallower parts?” He had hoped to take shelter before the bad weather; perhaps the stranger knew more.

Another canine, much smaller then the other and by every means was a coyote — not like the wolf that stood before her in a golden radiance, but someone of an albino white. The clouds granted that lovely equation to not blind such a dreaded pelt ; but she came forth to say hello before labeling her as a 'maybe' bad wolf, for a moment it surprised Miriam. Did she look bad? She thought her smile and overall humble disposition helped recede a friendliness to others, but perhaps she wasn't meek enough. The moon-wolf stepped back, smiling at the young coyote before facing back toward the other.

"Unfortunate.. Though I believe more east does it become shallower." Miriam lifted her paw and pointed up stream, to where it would descend into the pains itself. It diverged off eventually, but somewhere before that was a generally well crossed path. She looked up to the blackened sky, a wondering whether it'd depart anytime soon.. But even when she looked beyond it was dark ; an endless rainfall would come for quite some time. It was best to find shelter.

The girl didn't really understand what they were talking about, mostly because she wasn't really listening either. She saw her father smile at her and it seemed to light her face up, her tail wagging slightly behind her. Her attention moved back to the woman though and she hid behind her papa, watching and waiting. She wasn't sure what the woman was doing, but being with papa had showed her that others were scary.

“Come with us, then,” said Taikon. He did not know these lands, and even in the rain he preferred to move over shelter near a person and land he didn't trust. Second-guessing himself, he moved past the newcomer to the east with Vedetta in tow, putting his head forward to beat the rain.
Poor weather did not scare him, but the predators that might use it as cover did. They would not have been caught dead in the water, though. Cougars did not like water and were seldom seen in rain apart from woodlands like this one. The way he read the skies through the canopy, it seemed like it could be possible to beat the worst of the storm if they were quick about it and the crossing was shallow enough. Flooding was a possibility, but he would do that math when they came to the crossing.
He paused and looked behind him. “Unless you have a better idea.”

She looked a the river, it was over-flowing the currents were strong. If the rain would come to, it would be even worse, and take time to die down. Hours, days, where she would be wondered when she could cross more, but ah, did he have another idea? To cross the river and join to the other side. She smiled, softly, nodding lightly, "I will be in you're care, and yours as well," she said to the young coyote, another mild companion till the departure when they found a way.

He seemed intelligent, and was kind to but motion for this ; she must not take it for granted.

The young girl quickly followed after her father, happily bouncing behind him. However, as the stranger turned to her, Vedetta would widen her eyes, startled for a moment as if she forgot that people could talk to her. However that quickly changed as she offered the woman a smile. Her emotions seemed to be all over the place and, in reality, she really didn't have the best grasp on them. Instead, she would aim to pounce on the woman, clearly trying to play with her. In her mind, father had accepted her into their family, even if it was just for the current trip.

Both of them followed him, though the stranger had no real reason to trust him. He always found it curious when others were as trusting as Vedetta might be, willing to go on a whim with someone they did not know for no other reason than nothing else was around. Or, maybe he had some sort of air about him that made him trustworthy. Whatever the case, he now had two charges and took that quite seriously.
The land was muddy and the noise in parts was unbearable from the river swelling. As they wandered east at the grey one's instruction, Taikon watched the skies while the rain started to slam onto their pelts. Squinting, he could feel static in the air and at last, they would all be able to feel the rumble on the earth itself as the static struck the ground. The sound carried some distance, which meant the worst of it was far enough off that they had time, but only just.
“We have time,” he said, as the thunder could be felt reverberating through their paw pads. Every animal sense in him told him to find shelter, but he pushed against it, having a timing in mind when it would be a lost cause to hunt for the river passage.
As they travelled upstream, the water flew by, but began to branch into tiny creeks and tributaries. Taikon had them follow the main line past this, and indeed, it drew slower and shallower. It was by no means calm, but it could be crossed. “Here,” he looked at the grey one for confirmation. “Vedetta, I will help you across.” She was far smaller than either of them and any current could sweep her feet from under her.
Once more, he looked to the skies, hunting for what was to come. They were almost impossible to read, for the clouds were coating the starlight and the wind seemed to blow in two directions. Perhaps he was making the wrong call.

The child spoke of nothing, and yet lept in a faith and motioned of plays to Miriam. She smiled, brilliantly at the other, bending down and mimicking within this play as any pup would do. She remembered her time with playing with young and kin alike, and adored the playful and innocent matter they took — and the loving that all their mothers would flow to them. She oh-so wished to fall into that fate, if the heavens would grant a man of destiny.

As they played and followed along Taikon, he had found a way to cross. She nodded at him in gratitude, "I will be behind as support," and follow for any moments the waves decided to be reckless, and steal such a child away.

She would stay in between the two adults, watching the water. She was never really one to be scared of anything and so, when they started to walk, she would follow, staying close to papa as she knew he could protect her. And so, when the first wave came, it slammed into her, causing her to pause for a moment and shake her head, but her feet were still firmly planted thanks to the support of her papa.

However, then the undercurrent came, gripping her ankles and pulling her down suddenly. She would yelp as she fell, trying to claw her way towards her papa, or towards the nice lady, or anything. She was quickly disoriented and just hoped that one of the adults could grab her before she went down the river.
