Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The pack was although small, but settled nicely and peacefully in the realm of the vale. Olive as well, as days grew by, was growing large. Rin didn't know of their past, although assumed that perhaps pregnancy was a cause to bring together under the name of Duskguard. Rin spent her days discovering, roaming, helping patrol and tend to the caches.. Lackluster as it may sounded, she felt relatively at peace with it all. But ah ; she wondered if there was anything else she could do. Something that could bring true use?

For the meanwhile, the wolf hunted. She could smell within the vale's forests, a rabbit in the midst. Prowling slowly before the trees, keeping downwind as she moved closer and closer.. The rabbit plump but white, almost blending in if not for the twitching and black eyes ; a wolf can smell and see all. They had locked eyes, and Rin pounced before the other got away.

As she caught the rabbit, instead of placing into the caches, the woman sought for @Olive, and went to see whether she needed a meal for the day.

All too quickly did her belly swell large; it seemed it was only days ago she was cavorting with relative ease and flee, and now she had ballooned in all directions. Olive found it fascinating and attempted to glance upon her reflection in the waters of the lake often, but even there she could only see her own visage shimmering back. So she was relegated to what she could see from craning her neck back and looking in the outermost corner of her eyes, as well as allowing Tiberius’s ministrations to paint a tactile picture of her own body, since it was hard for her to see her own self.

Hell, it was even becoming hard to move.

But still she encouraged herself into gentle movement, knowing well the benefits of such an act. She took regular walks, one upon waking and one before settling down for the evening, and practiced stretches that she knew would loosen the tightness of her ligaments, which worked to keep together her expanding body. She never went far, as she found the local dwelling of her den high in the mountaintops to suddenly hold untold interest and wonder for her.

Olive had heard of nesting, but she had never felt such a beguiling compulsion as this before.

It was one such short jaunt that the pale seraph came upon another quiet soul, Rin — the silent woman Olive wanted to consider a friend, seeing as how they had come to rely on one another for intel, healing, packhood… and now, seemingly, food. With a salivating smile to tell the truth of her wants, the Priestess lightly admonished
“If I were your doctor, which I am,” she teased playfully, “I would say you shouldn’t be so rough so soon after healing.” Oh, why did all wolves and creatures around her make her assume the position of enforcer, seeing at they pushed their injuries sooner than their healer would prefer? The realization made her laugh inwardly. So it would seem, that Olive had a type.

“The season is plentiful, and we are both easily taken care of here.” Olive suggested, hoping this did not come off as unappreciative for Rin’s efforts — only that Olive would prefer they rest, and perhaps tend to their friendship, and share a meal together. Still, the gravid fae could not deny how her stomach suddenly craved the rabbit that lay before her.

No, Rin’s hunt was not unappreciated at all.

"I feel fine." Rin flexed her muscles lightly, although as she was mostly fur then muscle, it mostly just looked like an odd tightening. The other was indeed her nurse, but she didn't feel comfortable laying around being so useless, especially when in fact the one taking care of her injuries as the pregnant dame of Duskguard. She couldn't guard too well, but the woman could at least hunt for her. She knew the other simply meant it was better for her to heal more and more rather then take time to personally hunt when their caches were filled..

But she enjoyed the chase.

"How are you feeling?"

Rin lightly rebuffed the idea that she was in any way needing of rest, to which Olive had to smile — she oftentimes felt the same sort of restlessness, and pushed her own limits simply because she could. Perhaps motherhood had made her soft — now she could see the value to rest, where once she only saw the value of productivity. Smiling, Olive accepted the small gift of a meal. “Not as bad as I perhaps should feel,” she suggested, mouthing the rabbit and setting it at her feet, giving it a few cursory sniffs. It was so fresh, and incredibly warm — absolutely divine. Her mouth watered.

But food was not the reason she felt as good as she did.
“My son had returned,” the fair Priestess shared, the joy of it oozing across her face like honey. In spite of herself, she explained  “He was met with some trouble on his travels…” which were horrifying and traumatic and could not be spoken of. She nosed the hare and nibbled a tear into its velveteen skin. “His name is Archon, if you happen to see a new face or two around Duskguard.” Rin had been a member for what felt like months now. With the pack of the vale still very much in its infancy, Rin had very much been here from the very beginning.

As such, Olive spoke to her like the seasoned veteran she was, and opened up to her.
