Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

maybe @Jarilo?

Desdemona followed to the forest beside the mountain. It always was sickly sweet, for the trees produced a sap year-round that was divine to many. Now that summer followed, she could see the bugs and prey swarm to take a taste, even gazing at a squirrel that aggressively licked to it's bark. She tried once, and agreed it tasted fresh to the prime but never could understand, why these trees that looked of blood produced such a nectar.

It was close to Empyrean land though, so the shadow made sure to look closely to who was within it's midsts. There was one figure that tended to roam around so, although rather harmless.. She hadn't seen him lately, but likewise hasn't been to the forest as of recently. She had yet to know of Hydra's plans if she so wanted to claim this forest — but a sense of duty checked, to make sure no one would really claim it.

She was sniffing at one of the trees, for there was the faint smell of a wolf near the area.

Gradually, and with all the motivations of a springtime turning into summer, Jarilo roved out more recently. It helped that the juveniles were able to range a bit more, and he liked to bait them into the spaces he knew were safe exploration as well as help their parents keep tabs on them while they learned more. Plus, in the warmer seasons, there were always plenty of things to see out and around. Point being, he was enjoying himself lately in all of this too.

He had not lured any pups with him this morning though, and slipped through the bleeding trees on a smooth trot. Along the way, he drank in the sights and scents--skimming along for plantlife of particular interest, like fresh blooms or new growth that he had not seen before. The trees were strange enough here, and with the river not too far away, he kept expectation open. This he carried on with, uninterrupted, until he noticed more. Familiar, with a firm reminder of home that he always liked to see. Seemed like Desdemona had decided to peruse the bloodied woods today as well, which he took this as a good sign, open to the chance at company.

Slipping into what he hoped might be a blind spot on his quietest footsteps, he tried to stealth up on her while she was possibly preoccupied--eyes bright and posture almost playful.

Although sweetness covered the forest, at the same time it brought something of a discomfort. The way it was, looked as if the trees itself were bleeding. A crying forest? She could see sometimes in the distance of a thick fog eerily covering it, it brought an ominous feeling but nothing ever seemed to happen. Just a few tended to the area, passing by or simply living without another thought, or thankfully, without a true desire to make a pack right next door.

She was always on guard. Always in-case someone came and attacked, always in-case someone attacked Empyrean in one way or another. Her ears flickered, and she turned around to meet the minty-gaze of the Beta and tipped her head, "Hello Jarilo."

Not at all surprised when one of Empyrean's most dutiful guards caught his approach well before he could finish it, he smirked and swayed his tail softly as he closed in. “Hey,” he returned on a happy, almost-casual note and moved along to join her. “Anything going on?” Jarilo was usually one to make himself pretty comfortable around well-won compatriots, and now was no different as he slipped into the groove of it--curious enough about what she was up to in these bleeding forests that fringed their mountainside.

He was content to maintain some momentum, but had no primary directive to rush towards. Jarilo was here to take in the sights of summertime's lushness after all, but he was also keen to appreciate all that he could and more. He glanced warmly from Desdemona, then again towards the trees--seeing one with a particularly dramatic display of red sap dribbling down its trunk that happened to catch his eye. Still, he had to wonder why they presented this way.. if it was a cause, a response, a purpose, or what. Observation could only tell him so much and like many things, he sensed the plants had many secrets.

They would explore the forest further to their heart's content--two sets of keen Empyrean eyes.
