Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The dawn of the new day had Eirene sitting atop a a boulder looking over the cliffside of the territory. Across the fjord had been an outlet of rocks, sticking out like a sore flower in a field.

She assumed no less that, that was the unformidable Ford. The woman would sigh, continuing to look upward to the sky, uttering soft prayers of forgiveness and fortitude. On the occasion, such as today, she'd pray for fertility, too. Not for any dire reason, but her mother instilled her with the desire to have children. As she did now, she had Primrose, but...

The thought clawed at her mind, deep and envious to have full-blooded children. She felt immense guilt admitting the thought, but it was how she was raised. She'd prefer if Northfall would take responsibility together to raise him, not just her. What a cruel mother she had, instilling such a belief of blood superiority into her. It had been far too late for her to overturn such a moral, but she supposed she had in some ways. Primrose was still lingering, wasn't he?

The woman would pray for forgiveness for having those thoughts. She wasn't allowed to be selfish.

He was also getting older by the day. She could see the changes. The independence that blossomed, the curiosity that soared. It made her happy to see him grow; it allowed her to grow herself. Eirene was young, but she was also destined for a path of motherhood which she opened gratefully.

The woman would pray for healthy children, in particulate with sons above all. The Gods would listen to her, they had to. She'd left so much behind to follow their path, it was time for her penance. So she would wait.

Ragnar found happiness within the high reaches of his home. There was little which one could call foe, who would make or this deep and this high within Northfall without being made aware. He could walk with confidence in knowing that those Northfall housed were safe here in their rock and iced walls.

Within the Stormborn's keep he would come upon young Eirene upon the slopes which faced directly to their ocean views. The beauty that was Eirene shown before him. Ragnar was an incredibly lucky man. There was quite the pawful of women made to catch the eye of others here. Maybe the Gods had blessed him so, but he would like to think his own deeds and his own accomplishments had gained him such good views, both landscape and residents alike.

Still, he murmured, as he came to her side, “The view would not be such a horrible thing, did it not house our enemies.” He spoke as he looked to the Leviathan Sepulcher and then down to her. “Sindri believes the islands to be the exposed spikes of a great sea serpent's spine. A ancient long dead and hardened to rock. What do you think?”

A presence warmed her from behind and she turned her head, her eyes hooded tiredly with her lashes brushing against her brow line. She'd mewl in a greeting, a sound from deep within her throat. She laid with her stomach against the rocky surface, her head angling upward to look towards the warm tones of his fur.

"A shame...the islets are beautiful." The woman would sigh, shaking her head with disapproval. "Usurped by selfish fools. If only they could see the bigger picture..." Eirene didn't understand the voice of their enemies. They were selfish and greedy, using any method necessary to get what they desired. Violence didn't plague them as something strange or cruel; Eirene couldn't accept that.

She didn't like violence.

"Sindri is wise, she knows more than I." Eirene was enamored by the way the waves crashed against the side of the stonehenges, wanting to travel to coastlines. "The Serpent probably protected these coastlines. But now..." She'd sigh again, being washed over by dismal and melancholic. "Now I wonder if the serpent would still protect them."

A warm, half-lidded gaze greeted him, a stirring in her throat as she was pulled from her reverie. She had already found peace and comfort deep within the realm of Northfall and for this, Ragnar was happy and pleased.

There is a growled rumble on his lips, something that might have been a purring had he the vocals of Kuhn. Hearing her speak poorly of their enemies, it gave knowledge that she did not question Ragnar's intentions, his drive for vengeance, not in the manner which many others who called him friend had done.

Ragnar spoke not of it, nor did he want to waste these precious moments speaking of them. Instead, he focused his attention upon her.

“It would, I think...” He muses as he then sits and slides his forelegs forth to lay down on the cool rock next to her. “But like the Gods, I do not think it would involve itself in the squabble of mortals, lest they put a danger to the Sea itself. With time, many things have a way of righting itself. This is what I want. To right the wrongs and return the balance.”

There was a startled rumble that dripped from his expressive face— one that Eirene felt nervous of. Such a man of status, of such glory given by the gods themselves, should ever bow to a woman such as herself. Or rather have the time to actually hear what she has to say. It meant so much more to her than she intended for it to be.

He laid beside her then. She was tempted to shift away, wanting to give him as much space as he needed, but she was also selfish. She did not want to move, so she didn't. His presence alone was almost unearthly, but she didn't make anything evident upon her face. Eirene's expression was nonetheless kind, but also gentle.

Eirene would listen to his words. Thoroughly. "You're right," she'd begin, "They simply keep the balance. As things should be." Her ears would flicker, tail coming around to sway lightly. She meant what she said— Eirene knew that life was about balance. Every aspect of it was carefully watched over by the deities above.

"You're following in those same steps... as if the Gods were speaking through you." Her eyes glimmered with rendered sparkles. She enjoyed speaking to Ragnar, perhaps more than she should've. "It's honorable."

There was much of Eirene for Ragnar to learn, where currently only mystery and unanswered questions laid. He knew that she had traveled here, pulled into this direction by the God's will or destiny, or so she had believed and Ragnar had no place to question it. This world as a whole was quite magical in comparison to anywhere else he had traveled and even those who had lived once as gods had come here to call Northfall home during their mortal life.

Ragnar, as Leader, was at the helm of it all but he would have never thought to believe Eirene would think of him in such a high regard in so little of time. She must have really believed Ragnar had been chosen by the Gods for many a great things to come. Maybe they had.

“It would be far easier if everyone had as much faith in me as you do already.” The blonde wolf smiles to her, a raised scarred brow lifted as she spoke of the path he walked being an honorable and God given one. He walked wherever path he so chose and could only hope that it was one that might please the Gods, so that be might live greatly from this life into the next. Would the Gods see him as unruly or would they bless him for his ambition.

He would not know. Not until his death and while he did not fear the inevitable he did not wish for it to come too soon. Ragnar did want his name to live on even if his body had long turned to rot.

“It is easy to follow when one's peace and safety are not disrupted, when we can live blissfully and blindly in our personal day to day tasks.” He muses, as he thinks further what 'returning the balance' might bring. “Many mortals fear death, so much so that they would betray those they follow and love to save their own selves.”

He pauses, looking back to the young and beautiful Eirene, “Do you fear death?”
