Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

There was a large jagged line near the river. It led out into the ocean, and wet welcomed the world to the rivers before. A divide onto the true fresh and salt water — large within body and clear to see, and yet when one would try and peer within it's view.. Miriam could not see the bottom. Curious as it was, that was not what brought her into the cove upon this day. On the mountains did she few, a fresh bloom of dazzling lillies and daisies below to the world.

She approached the cove, finding the small patches of flowers that bloomed to a mini-meadow. She sniffed them with a pleased smile, and sat to the ground. She saw around there was a few ones broken off, it looked as if a herd had passed by the area and broke some within a stampede. Laying on the ground, petals and broken stems were all around — and she, mused with an idea.

Gingerily did Miriam start to pick up these flowers. She preened her tail, a gathering of them as an accessory of sorts. Though she could not reach her head or a few parts upon her body enough to keep them still ; the moon maiden at the very least would decorate her own tail with so. She tried to bite off the longer stems, taking into only the head of the flower and trying to tuck it into her tail. Some petals measly laid around for her little wardrobe moment.

Something pulled the sensation of an ungodly headache from the back of his cranium that woke him up with a start and immediate regret. The large brute groaned internally and a hiss escaped his dark lips as they parted in a grimace. There he laid on his side, his eyes blurred by the snare of a hot sun. In this moment, delirium made the world spin and tied his stomach in a knot, he tried harder to make his eyes reject the sun's blinding light and finally took notice of his current situation. Their orange irises blinked, loose sand being the first confusing image to rattle his brain.

Was that a fuckin’ bird?

Squalls echoed in his eardrums over the roaring of what his brain registered as a body of water. When feeling was regained in his appendages, his weight struggled to find balance to a stand. There was a lot racing through his mind: mild panic, a nauseating twist in his stomach, and how the fuck did he end up on a beach?

I need to lay off the fungi…

Tau assessed his body with a twirl, legs check, no bruising! And… he lifted a large back leg to check underneath him

Yes! Those are there too.

A boyish grin plastered itself lazily to his maw and just as quickly as it came, disappeared as reality sunk its teeth into him.

Where…. Am… I?

It seemed to be an alcove, littered with tall flora and sharp jutting rocks. It curved like the moon did when it crescents, its cliff sides dark and jagged like teeth of a boar where those goddamn birds sat and watched him with their eerie, beading eyes. Tau scoffed, fuckers probably thought he was going to die. Despite his very unfortunate circumstance, death was not in his cards. There wasn't a lot that Tau cared for, but making sense of his situation sat at pretty high priority. When someone washed up on a beach in the middle of nowhere, there were some questions that needed to be asked and damnit he was going to get answers. How did he live? Mushrooms were not to be eaten again... well... new species of them, it was just a bad trip, yep that's what this was a bad trip.

Once he managed to accept that lie an eerie floral scent flitted into his nostrils, it was an odd combination that should have been avoided but underneath the sweet scent lay the aroma of lupine that could not be ignored. Perhaps whatever this amalgamation be, the cliffhanger to this nightmare would resolve itself. The large brute followed this smell a distance, almost unsure if it was a trick of the mind or real for how far it was taking him. When doubt had him at its fingertips an assortment of gray greeted his plane of sight. The body was definitely lupine and the odd sweet perfume was the registration of female pheromones'.  He hated to think of being a total creep, but he could not help to gawk at the little lady seriously adorning herself with flowers , he couldn't believe it. Not that he had anything against tree huggers, it was just weird, maybe she was weird... or you know he was weird for just watching her.

As the petals gradually was around her ; the smell of flora was slowly becoming ingrained into her very fur. She even sneezed lightly as a stray petal came too close to her nose, then drifted off elsewhere by her current of air. She was rather messy within her attempts, what would of seamed a cute moment of flowers decorated her tail was but a mess of petals and broken flowers.. She was saddened — her selfishness destroyed their beauty, "to the summerlands you will bloom," so the little lady muttered.

As her gaze drifted up, there was a behemoth in the distance. Large enough that even a distance she could see, though strangely enough they seemed to be gazing at her. Maybe they wanted to join? Miriam smiled, especially as he didn't show any teeth or claws and simply looked like a curious bystander, "Hello, lovely day isn't it?" said she, covered in flowers and petals.

@Miriam

The roaring of the abyss fell upon deaf ears, his attention was held on the faint utterings from the young woman before him. He stood still stupefied in his musings, his large head cocked with brows furrowed, Tau knew of religion, but never someone to talk to the trees like they were beings. Perhaps youth had made him ignorant, though he never knew a bad psychedelic ride to plant his ass in a different world either. To Tau, there was a lot that did not make sense right now and it dawned to him that the odd, pretty woman was in fact not the weirdest fucking factor of the day.

The piercing gaze of starlight would have been missed upon his frame; his mind asunder had it not been the casualty of their touch as a gentle tap to his shoulder, he otherwise would have left her to sacrilege. There was a warmth to the curving of her smiling lips, her voice whimsical in its delivery
"Hello, lovely day isn't it?"

In a retort he snorted, making sure it was loud enough to convey his displeasure, but unsure if it could have been received from the distance that parted them. Seeing as how this day could have not gotten worse, he chose in fact to approach the silver lady. It was impressive however, within this short span Tau added another dislike of this stupid place. Sand was not a friend of a man as big as he, large, deep imprints made it absolutely terrible to travel atop as they sunk in out leaving scores in their wake. A guttural growl of annoyance unfortunately was his introduction accompanied with the expulsion of the dirt between his toes in a very inconsiderate manner. Should the dirt had made its way to his company, he did not care, his towering frame dared her to object. Eyes of embers bore into the other canid, unnervingly serious as he finally spoke his deep demand, "This place. What is it"

The behemoth emerged, dressed in in brown, grays and cream ; and yet un-wolf like, but a distinct smell of one. Over-sized, large and with a mane like no other, could be said he reminded her vaguely of the lore of felines! Lions, if she remembered rightly so — great beasts with manes and drawn within the dirt by those of maidens and earls. Though personally, Miriam has never seen them, only that of cougars who did get inherit such a refined coat.

He looked like a man who would would suit that of red and oranges.. Maybe even a mischievous side would venture to say a dark purple! Her eyes glided to the own flowers that plattered her pelt, ones she decorated herself in an amusement through this small flower patch. Though it wouldn't seem of a worry to him, approaching a fair-maiden and questioning so, "you are in the Crescent Cove, south-side my good sir." Though demanding his voice boomed, she did not mind.

Instead Miriam plucked a red flower from her bossom, smiling at him, "Care for a flower?" she'd adore nothing more then to decorate him.
