Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

When Reiko first announced her intention to return to Tsukiishi, the silverwhite had felt fear simmer in his belly. He didn't know if it was a good idea to go, considering the battle for the Everfrost that'd drove Shiroshika from its slopes, and Quicksilver fretted that the tiger they'd forced away might roam the mountain in wait - anticipating a moment of opportunity.

He expressed his concerns gently, but would never stop her. Reiko was fiercely independent and that wasn't something he wanted to rob her of, so he bid her a loving farewell and waited quietly for her return. Only then could the druid slacken, relieved to see her unharmed and to learn that no sign of her enemies had been found.

His turn, then, to look toward Shiroshika's silver towers.

He did not inform his betrothed of his own trip Northward, for to do so would spoil the gift he hoped to surprise her with on their fast approaching wedding day.

Snow fell softly from a pallid sky as he roamed the spire in search of a very particular type of tree. He had been introduced to them during one of his visits the year before and recalled how his beloved's eyes lit up to share that space with him. Quicksilver recalled how they brightened her smile, as though from their branches bloomed pure magic. He wanted to ensure some of that joy would accompany them to the life they'd soon vow to create together.

When at last he found them along Tsukiishi's lower reaches, Quicksilver paused to admire the view. The trees bloomed pink and white, in the delicate shades that reminded him of Reiko's soft nature. A smile tgged at the corners of his lips and he rose a paw to stride forward, but the sight of someone unexpected prevented that step.

From between the cherry blossoms ventured a great white elk, crown weighted by an impressive set of antlers. He was tall and powerful, yet almost silent as he stepped through a flurry of snow and petals. Quicksilver wondered how long it'd been since their paths had crossed, but he was not afraid - each time the beast appeared before him, he brought a sense of comfort.

A sign, he felt, that everything was going to be okay.

So he waited, and the stag lifted his head to regard the druid with kind eyes. Wolf and elk shared a long moment of quiet, of appreciation for one another. Quicksilver bowed his head low in respect for the king of Northern forests who, in turn, lifted his muzzle proudly. He exhaled a huffed breath in a smoky plume before shifting to vanish among the foliage.

The silverwhite didn't know what this most recent encounter meant, but good things were sure to follow. He loped forward and looked among the trees for the lower branches that might bear fruit for him to reach. He gathered several and wrapped them in the otter skin he'd brought, the corners of which he gathered between his teeth to carry toward Vanderfell.
