Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The caches needed to be refilled a bit. Though there were times they brought prey from the brim, there was still a steady supply of school fish within the area. On occasion as well would a seal or two come to their shores, or even the rocks distances away — that itself was a treat. Their caches were normally filled with that mixture, mighty fine fish within and occasional birds as well, but it was quite rare to see anything outside of so ; or otherwise would have to find the cache within the Behemoth's Brim's forest for a change of pace.

Vendrussel dive off the rocks, a leap of faith as she could see school bustling around, sizes ripe within the making there were a plentiful kind. Could feed someone for the day or two, if she grabbed one at the very least. She felt the cool rush of the water to the tip of her nose and embracing her fur ; she opened her maw, and exhaled outwards to avoid the mouthful of water. Precision, was key, and she dived directly into the middle of the pod itself and — ! Scooped up one with her maw. She could feel her tongue glide near the scales, and teeth sink its flesh. To the surface, she paddled up.

A harsh, killer bite as she swamp back to the beach and surprisingly, saw @Belial there. Throwing the now dead and caught fish at the sand, Vendrussel smiled and greeted, "Hey, you here to fish?"

^^It was not an uncommon sight to find the Reborn Dragon on the coast, or even just chillin’ on the beach, fish in hand. He didn’t really eat anything else and was usually hunting, or rather, fishing.

He watched her dive into the water, and come up with a fish in her jaws. Impressive, truly, one of Belial’s favorite ways to fish. He nodded in greeting, with the lick over his canines. “Yes! I am here to commune with the fish… with my teeth. Do you have a target in mind, boss?”

Belial was a strange singularity to her. He spoke the language that was said to be passed down personally, from dragons — and he claimed to be one. But she no scales, or feathers, what defined to what seemed like a dragon, but he held no clue to her Clans life. She nicknamed him 'reborn,' for that reason ; someone who lost their wings and formed to a wolf itself.. In a truth, she might be in a slight denial, for it was difficult to wrap her mind around the matter. Especially as her people saw dragons as some all-knowing creatures, and he, like everyone else, didn't know why they were all here.

"There's been a school of fish that swarm this area lately," she grinned lightly, "let's weed them out." She pointed at them that then took a gander around. They weren't all returning, most likely due to her extreme measure of disturbing. She needed something to gather their interested and started to forage within the grass. Picking up bits and pieces of debri, like dead bugs and flower seeds in the mix. Pawing it in a pile, before shoving it off the edge as bait.

^^Previously a dragon that thrived on fish, Belial watched her with some curiosity, as she tried to lure the fishies back to her with grass. It was an interesting technique, Belial mused softly, chuckling with the shrug of his shoulder. “Stay still... and they'll forget you were there.”

The thing about fish, though, was that they scared easily and could be hunted like a normal herd of deer. They had not returned because they had swam in different directions and simply needed to be herded back to the slaughter.

So he stood, quickly, and jumped and barked around, looking very much like he was just playing in the water. That’s all it took, really.

When Belial jumped, she too joined into the fray. He caused a ruckus, looked to be playing and yet with the splashing of water some of the fish had jumped within in a surprised attack. She was quick to try and snipe some of them, as one roamed in the air for a moment notice, her jaws snapped at so. She caught a big one, it thrashed and could even make her body shake to one side as she bit hard into it — blood dripping into the water itself and funny enough some of the fish even swarmed into it.

Only moments later, did it finally stop moving, and she held it in triumph.

^^The best part about hunting in this manner was that he got to see all of the fishies up close, and on a good day - some of them were so frightened that they went airborne. The first time that it had ever happened, he’d been smacked in the face with one.

He had meant to swarm them towards Vendrussel, but instead, one had gone airborne, and straight into her mouth. Truly, a sight to bare witness to. He grinned, laughing. “Nice catch!” And then he would spring forward in a playful attempt to steal it from her.

She would grin and smile as well, with a mumble of thanks through her stuffed mouth. It'd be a great addition to the cache, which reminded her greatly that she needed to clean so. They were getting musty, most likely from the previous strange storm that hovered over them ; and quietly added to the files upon her list to do. Within that thought — Belial lunged.

She laughed and playfully growled as he grabbed onto the back ; and now the game of tug and war begun. She, stuck upon her side clamped down even harder and started to pull with a fury.
