Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

snuggled into the dame and the litter of others, death remained but a usually silent child in the midst of whining and cooing. sought only for warmth and food, not even fighting the rest for such a way and would find elsewhere. struggling within the masses, if an obstacle was within the way the small bundle of darkness would seek elsewhere, an annoyance feeling the bodies upon them and tiny teeth suckling into their attempted fur.

a cool breeze drifted by, and weakly they lifted their head to the feeling. no sound, no smell, no sight — just the slightest moan, to get the attention of her mother, for she was lost somewhere within the den.

Normal. She just wanted to be normal. Did this, her brood, now make her normal?

But not a week had gone by since her scions emerged. Reluctantly she retreated back to the sullen outdoors to forage for anything nutritiously beneficial to her, or to quench her own thirst since her pups drew out every drop of her hydration regularly. But she never grazed far. Stealth was her becoming, in and out unseen, and quick to mute the fret of her children when they grew too cool in her absence.

Eris was there though, deep in an unawares slumber, when one snapped her away from whatever dream she chased, very aware of the subtlest noise they made. The cocoon in which she nestled them all in, including herself, was not yet large enough for the whelp to escape from so easily, and so she stretched herself to roll the pup over unceremoniously back to the nook and comfort of her exposed belly. 'Here, lil' squish', her voiced squeaked at her jet-black doppelgänger.

The pale boy lay still beside his siblings no matter how they tossed or clambered at his frail body. Pestilence knew little more than his hunger and so it was his stomach that dictated his movements. For now, he rests easily in the silence, though such peace never lasted. A shift and familiar sound would rouse him back to the conscious world despite his wishes. Like the sister unseen, he too would raise his head through the confusion until the smell of milk drew his nose. It would not take long for him to sniff out the source and after a pause to sneeze he would fill his belly once more.

coaxed back, snuggling to their dames chest, the love of the warmth even if she couldn't understand any and all — just, the desire for food and warmth. though, the smallest sneeze was let out while close to a littermate. but ignored, wobbly and now too seeking milk.

No sooner had she cajoled her daughter back to the source of their main comfort, another child was inevitably disturbed by movements. Her pale son she had already noted carried ailments at such a tender age, and as if on queue, they sneezed, and she just watched as he at least showed the strength to move on his own accord.

sounds good!

Little was needed to fill his belly, his body not truly hungry only tempted by delicious smells. He'd suckle away with a snort or two from a blocked nostril before ultimately falling asleep at the teat with a dribble of milk down his stained chin.
