Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

He was never too far but neither was she. Nymeria haunted her brother like a poltergeist, unwilling to allow him to disappear for good yet today, it was she that ventured further than usual. Permanently did blood seem to splatter upon her features that held a strange delicate elegance about them despite the insanity that glittered in her silver eyes.

Nymeria giggled to herself as she arranged the bones, still new and fresh with tangy nerves and slivers of flesh that she had not yet picked apart and left strewn about messily. Her lips and teeth coated crimson, having tried to bleed the critter dry as it bled to death, Nymeria's giggles were bubbled and lofty as she looked down at her picture.

A crude rendering of the little beast she had caught, bled and killed. Behind her, her tail thumped in a puddle of blood.

It wasn't often that Lilith left their forest. She found the world outside to be utterly boring when compared to the world within; and plus, out there, food and (fairly poor) company wasn't readily provided to her. But every once in a while, Lilith would feel compelled to go beyond, and well, self-control was never her strong suit anyways.

So beyond, she went.

A giggled rang through the lands almost as if it were haunted by an apparition, which no more caused fear in the young serpent than would any other occurrence — instead, she trailed after it mostly to confirm if it had been a true sound or existed only in her head, as the phantom rot-scent of the reach. When the stormcloud of girl found the epicenter of the sound, and saw that it was nothing more than another shewolf, she brazenly stepped forward and canted her juvenile head at the bloody mise en scéne.

"What... was it?"

Nymeria wondered who else she could make with bones. Of course, she would need their bones first to really stay true to them but that wasn't a hard thing to get. It required only a little bit of murder! Saliva pooled beneath her tongue as she giggled, her silvery gaze looking with awe at her art.

Someone was there. Someone other than her and her little bone picture. A child, not a baby but not an adult, not a year yet she thought and Nymeria craned her head to look at her.
"Oh," she breathed, thinking that this one was interesting. So bold, so uncaring -- Nymeria's features lit up. Maybe she could keep her! "It doesn't matter now," Meria crooned as she lifted a paw to stroke affectionately at the bones, "it's better as it is now."

"Don't you think?" Nymeria blinked, waiting. ^^

Speaking to another outside of her Nightwalker family was... strange. Had she ever done this, before? Had she ever seen another work who wasn't of Nightwalker blood? Even @Edith she was reluctantly related to. She hadn't heard any stories of outsiders, and had no real frame of reference to know what they were like. This masked woman, however, fit right into Lilith's sense of 'normalcy.'

Still unawares of what animal this artwork was previously, the leggy yearling stepped closer and looked down the point of her nose at the destroyed, dissected carcass. "Hmm." Lilith muttered, thinking about how she had never thought to do this. Bones were too obvious of a medium; the real beauty was in the sinew, and fascia. Still, not totally certain how to appreciate such a thing, Lilith canted her head and questioned the strange woman with an inquisitive tone. "You weren't hungry?"
