Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Quicksilver

As the sun was setting, the clouds roamed in and provided the smallest drizzle. Pittering, of droplets falling to the world and she looked up from the plains and blinked as one hit her eye. The clouds were light in color, not comparable to the storm that once roamed within the back, nor' any impending thunderstorm. They were as gray as the lightest tone upon Miriam's pelt — a clear indication that it was to only rain then for a fearsom weather alert.

Nontheless, even though it looked to be relatively alright she found herself searching for a temporary hide away. There was plenty mountains where cave could provide, and yet.. When she started to move toward one — the smell of packs were heavy to the area. Unfortunate, the maiden so thought as she looked a bit forloned, for she wasn't one to cross the clear lands. Though facing their mountain ; and to the gray clouds above, Miriam looked around, to see if there was anywhere else to hide away. The plains were relatively empty of trees, and she sighed with a smile.

"Oh dear."

Quicksilver ventured from Skelmir's Pass beneath pale clouds that bore no real threat. He roamed out into unclaimed land, keen to play his part in seeking new territory that might be fit for Shiroshika's relocation. In large part, he felt responsible: as a to-be Emperor, husband and (hopefully) father.

With each of those titles, he'd be expected to protect and provide for. Only the best would be good enough for his family.

As he reached the lowlands, a dampness to the air alerted him to changes to be expected in the weather - but he did not change his course. Quicksilver carried on at a steady lope, nose working for any sign of strangers who might be lurking in the area and eyes actively searching for a place to find shelter should the rains come heavy enough to delay his mission.

Closer did it roar, coming with a darkness as she gazed to the gloomy clouds ; but with no place to hide properly from the coming weather, all seemed but a lost cause. White eyes glazing above as she prayed to the Goddess, and to the lands below to gather that guidance — to show her such a way. Her eyes flinched in a wink, as a droplet fell into view. A humidity, slowly arriving to her fur.

Hurried within pace, in the distance she saw a figure, "Hello there! Pardon me, do you perhaps know a shelter nearby?" Miriam asked, coming closer and closer as the sky drizzled lightly.

At last, the rains came. It fell in a soft drizzle, the type that clung to the tips of his fur. The longer, rabbit-soft tufts of his ears curled softly with the increased humidity, and his pace quickened.

Somewhere in the distance, there was a rumble. Quicksilver lifted his gaze to blink past sudden lashes in the direction of the thrum, and found the clouds darkening just beyond the Western mountain range. With a flick of his tongue he swept a stray water droplet from a whisker, and turned his head to focus on finding somewhere to settle until the weather cleared.

His powder blue eyes caught sight of a moving figure, one that veered his way. Quicksilver chuffed a greeting, offering a friendly wave of his tail as she piped up in question. “Just ahead,” he would allow ger to fall in alongside him, match his pace up she so wished, “there's a cave. Follow me.” And off he went an a lope, gaze searching for an opening on the mountainside he'd swore he saw before.

He was a tall man of mostly pale colors. Specificially whites with the few grays, he looked rather delicate and soft ; maybe be mistaken as someone more feminine if not for his more masculine voice. She saw him someone as beautiful, and was especially amazed for a moment of the subtle differences within his eyes. Almost wouldn't noticed if she not had gotten closer, but she could've sworn one was blue and the other was gray.. Though he turned, and walked toward the cave where she followed.

The rain started to grow heavier, as before dipping into the cave he led, Miriam raised her head. The clouds were quickly growing dark, a visible difference from the moment she stepped to the hills, to now. Her tail brushed slightly in a worry, wondering if it was a thunderstorm that was approaching or a downpour.. She couldn't tell yet if it was a quick one due t how fast they formed without even a split of sunlight in the mix, "oh my," Miriam said, "do you think it'll stay like that for some time?" and she shook some of the damp water off of her fur.

When finally he found the hollow in the mountainside, Quicksilver gestured with his muzzle. “There,” he directed, and led the lilac she-wolf up the rugged slope so they might seek its shelter. He stood aside and glanced her way, offering a few moments to allow her entry before he would swiftly follow.

At the mouth of the cave, he shook the waters that'd accumulated in his pelt. He settled off to the side, a flank pressed to the cool stone wall to support his weight as he set about sweeping rainwater from his upper limbs and licking his paws clean.

She asked a question of him, and he ceased his grooming to regard her. There was something oddly familiar about the starlight shade of her lovely eyes, but Quicksilver couldn't pair a name with her face. “I, uh,” he looked away again, at the weather outside as thunder boomed far in the distance; his ears splayed. “I think a storm's on its way. Hopefully it'll pass soon.”

They'd be stuck together for a time, so he offered his name and made conversation with her while they sheltered. Quicksilver found her pleasant and polite, and when finally the thunderstorm passed he bid her a fond farewell with the hope that their paths might someday cross once again.
